Porcao Rio Restaurant - Flamengo branch

by lorira

What is the price per person of the buffet dinner at Porcao Rio, in the Flamengo district of Rio (in US $).

Also, can you recommend a reliable tour operator for a city tour of Rio?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

Porcão Rio restaurant at Aterro do Flamengo is a "All you can eat" buffet/restaurant and the price per person today is R$81,00 ( USD$46,21).
Notes: I am not sure if this cost is effective for reveillon.
You have to book before dinner.
You may find phone number on pasted links below.

Porcao is very overpriced for the quality of the food, IMHO, and trades on name recognition. There are lots of good churrascos in Rio that are more value for money.
A great private guide---not as expensive as you may think--- is Rafael Torres Lopas (Rafa) who has a lot of good tips pages for his beloved city of Rio and nearby Niteroi here on VT as RafaelTheSecond.
The GrayLine (most common bus) tour spends a lot of time picking up and dropping off passengers.
You can actually get around quite well by inexpensive taxi on your own though.
A good resource are the pages and maps on www.ipanema.com

You will have great fun here. Not many people speak English, but they are friendly and will do thei best to help you around. If I can help you anyway, just let me know. I am a Carioca! Have a great trip and enjoy Rio!

Guaraná, anyone?

by b1bob

Aside from the pitiful meal on the flight down, I found out more about Mabel, a 25-year old, smart and nice looking (like no Mabel I knew before) MBA from Rio. Unfortunately, she has a boyfriend, but that didn't mean I couldn't talk to her. She recommended that I try a uniquely Brazilian soft drink called Guaraná from a local fruit by that same name. It's hard to describe the flavour, but the closest thing I can think of is to liken it to a fruity ginger ale. From that point on, I became hooked. I knew I'd be bummed if I couldn't find it after returning to the States. I had to find a way to market Antarctica Guaraná in the United States, for purely selfish reasons and if it made the drink company and me richer, so much the better. There are other brands of this treat, but Antarctica, in my opinion, is by far the best.

THE STREETS VENDORS IN RIO

by RafaelTheSecond

We can really eat delicious stuff in the street just like regular locas do, nearby the io's Bus Station, our Rodoviaria, we can eat the CHURRASQUINHOS!;)

Maybe it is not so clean and the proper places to do it, but David, romenia and I we always do like the romans do...Here it is not Rome, but we liked the churrasquinho anyway!;)

Churrasquinhos are fry meat (barbecue) that you can easily find in almost every corner of the Rio's suburbs!;)
