A4 on the beach

I stayed here for meetings and work, and the hotel was chosen for me. It is a good business hotel, and if you want a not-so-personal beach hotel it is ok, too.
The room was well appointed and everything worked. Good view to the beach from my window (see photo). I assume the lower floors will have less of a view.
I was well taken care of by the hotel staff, and felt the service level was good.
The minibar is expensive, but that seems always to be so in business hotels. Worse, comparatively speaking, is the use of the hotel's internet services - unless you like to throw money around. Likewise, do not do your laundry here. How they can think up their prices for these things I do not know, but I want to let it be known that it is way overpriced.

Unique Quality: The location is fine if you have business or things to do in Barra and the south coast of Rio. If you are going to the main tourist areas of Rio (the historical centre, the Sambadromo, Maracana and the other sports stadiums in the centre and the north, to Copacabana, Ipanema etc.), then do not stay here.
The hotel has its own highway underpass, so you have direct and private hotel access to the beach. The beach is superb, and the water quality this far south should be ok.
Next door is a good Italian restaurant - the Fratelli - which serves up anything Italian or remotely so - with gusto! A fun and good place - much better than the hotel restaurant.
On the 17th floor is a good bar and pool with a view.

More about Windsor Barra Hotel

Italian on the beach

by Saagar about Fratelli

Want to go back to the old country for excellent food and service? Step into the Fratelli on Avenida Sernabetiba in Barra de Tijuca, next door to Windsor Barra Hotel. Frequented mostly by locals of Barra, this restaurant is seriously good and professional, but with a touch of homeliness and rustic atmosphere. I really enjoyed it. I had a grilled octopus dish with spinach-rice, good! There were various appetizers and snacks-size dishes that started the meal, and especially the thin, pizza-like bread was a hit amongst several of us around the table. The sea food eaters seemed very sateisfied, and the carnivoures amongst us seemed so, too.
The menu selection was good, so was the drinks list.

All recommended!

Where to watch a World Cup game?

by American_rob

I will be in Rio for the Brazil vs. Portugal World Cup game.

I am staying at the Windsor Barra Hotel (in Barra da Tijuca) but wondered if there was a cool place to go watch the game?

I kind of envision a place with a few little bars/restaurants together (more locals and less tourists / conference people) - I realize it is in the morning so maybe somewhere to have brunch and a beer ;)

Thanks in advance.

I don't live in Rio, but don't worry all bars, restaurants, in the streets you will see the world cup. Everything closes at the game Time. You are going to be in the Barra, it's a litle far from Ipanema, Copacabana, becuase there the have a enermous (Telao) in the beach everybody goes because they have shows and everybody cheers together. Brazil stops just to see the games. I hope we don't lose because it will look like a funeral. Hope I helped. Good Trip and VIVA BRAZIL.

Thank you very much.

I was searching for info on where that big TV screen was and found some pictures of what looks like a great party on the beach. I will check with the hotel when I arrive and get info on how to get there - worth it to make the trip for that great party (then we can just hang on beach for the rest of the day)!!!
