  • The resort offers a nice beach, relaxing environment and ecological oriented rooms.

In a walk distance, you can reach a fishers' village, and some natural sea pools, with warm water and places for snorkeling.

There is a vast range of hotels in the country, from the humblest ones to international chains with all the possible facilities.

Here are some tips on good and charming hotels, some of which are worth the visit.

This is an old neoclassical, but fully renovated hotel, in the middle of Copacabana beach. Ask for a room with a view, and you will be able to wake up with the Sugar Loaf in your window. The hotel is part of the Historical and Artistical National Monuments.

Besides, there are good restaurants (like the italian Cipriani) and a fantastic pool.

$100 - $150 per room (it's worth shopping around rather than booking through the hotel)

If you're heading for the Iguaçu Falls then this is probably the most expensive hotel in the area, but if you can afford it, it is definitely worth the extra money. It's the only hotel in the national park and you've got a spectacular view from the hotel of one section of the falls. It has all the usual first class amenities: swimming pool, games room, shops, tennis court, excellent restaurant. There are also regular buses into town from the hotel.

  • It is very popular to rent an apartment or a room in a family's house, if you are staying for longer piriods of time (above 4-5 days). I rented with a few others an apartment in Olinda for the Carnaval (~8 days) and another room with a family in Rio (in the Copacabana area).
It's fun having you own place and it's usually cheaper than an hotel.

  • In Brazil, there a lot of guest houses ('Poussadas') and small hotels, which offer simple rooms with shower facilities for R$ 20-50 (US$ 10-25) per room. If traveling during the low season or staying several days, don't hesitate to ask for a discount.

  • Pousadas are the best option in the smaller cities or town! Some of them offer overnight stay, with shower facilities and breakfast for as little as £5. Extremely good value for money! Don't be afraid to bargain!

Unrated hotels are the best options in the big capitals as well as youth hostels. In Rio de Janeiro, stay in Gloria. In Sao Paulo, in Republica. In Salvador, there is a hotel with excellent breakfast 2 blocks from Elevador Lacerda. In Brasilia, stay in Asa Sul pousadas.

Pousadas. You'll find lot of Pousadas near the Beach. If you like a small beach like Joao Fernandes perhaps you will choose Mykonos

Pousadas are all very rustic, you can have an excellent view from your room
