    • As almost all of the times I have a small budget to travel I stay in campgrounds along the cost. Easy, cheap and safe, most of them have quite nice loccation! Just bring ur tend!
    Around US$ 4,00 per tend.

    Safe, clean, nice bathrooms, near the beach and near night life of Lagoa da Conceicao.

    • unfortuantely i don't have much expertise here...the two times i've been have been with a group so the hotels were picked for us. i think they'd both be a bit expensive for individual travelers. (one of the ones i stayed at, Porta da Barra, is mentioned in the Rough Guide to Brazil, and it is clean and safe but the staff wasn't very helpful)
    there are pousadas and a few hostels around, so unless it's during carnaval session I don't think it would be an issue finding a decent cheap place.

    • In a renovated colonial mansion, this hotel is the most charming one in the city.

    This place was decent for business hotel and vacation. The pool is very small but is on the roof with a great view and bar next to it. you can see it at www.sales@praiaipanema.com
    About $115 to 145US.

    All rooms have a small balcony and a beach view!

    Rio de Janeiro: The Ipanema Inn is not a bad deal at $55 a night as far as prices in Rio go. It's only about a half block of the beach, centrally located in Ipanema, and has a very helpful and freindly Spanish and English speaking staff. The rooms are decent with ac/tv/phone/minibar although they could use better decorations. There is also a restaurant downstairs and a couple of bars within a block. Be sure to ask for a room facing the street so that you can open your window at night and listen to all the commotion! Highly recommended for those of you on a budget.Foz do Iguacu: The Hostelling International joint is perhaps one of the best hostels I have seen in Latin America. There are large sitting rooms with cable television, a great staff, and a large kitchen. It costs about $5 a night and is great for the shoestringers.

    For a stay in the Amazon visit the Ariaú Jungle Towers hotel built in the jungle about 2 hours by river boat from Manaus, the biggest city in the Amazon.

    Not just a hotel, excursions into the jungle with guides are included in the price as is full board. Share the facilities with some of the resident monkeys.

    The place to stay in Rio de Janeiro is obviously Copacabana. This is still an option even if you're on a budget. I stayed at the Hotel Santa Clara on Rua Décio Velares. It was in a quiet residential area, about 10 minutes walk from the beach.

    • A very nice & friendly pousada in Brasilia, i've been there on september 2000. Its runned down by a nice old lady.
    20 R$ a night, which is considered a good price in Brasilia's terms.
