Although we did not stay at this hotel, we made a point to have TEA here twice. My daughter-in-law made the reservations ahead and recommended the tea after having sampled it the week before for some special occasion. The dining area was elegant and the tables faced an enormous window through which we watched cascading water spraying over the sides of an elevated pool. The lobby was vast with glass walled elevators available to carry you to your room. Be sure to see photos 2 and 3--for more of this sophisticated hotel.

The hostal is a wonderful cozy place to relax for backpackers, just some 2 km outside of Coyhaique; has 8 rooms with 2-4 beds plus 2 rooms with 1 bed (for couple). Also, 1 cabin, fully equipped, 6 beds, is available. There is storage room for backpackers, kitchen, quite big bathroom and shower area. Highly recommended for backpackers who go this region. Price (according to website): 10 USD p.p. including breakfast !! That's cheaper than others in the area without breakfast.
The Hostal is located in a huge fir forest, the owners have built it on their own, log wood (block house). Thus situated very quiet. If you view the pictures in the Galleria (website), then you can see some fine details of the living area, as well as the bedrooms. There is a big information "section" in the living area - pinboard, where travellers can leave notes on all and anything, tips for other lodgings in Chile & Argentina, etc. The owner offers tours in the region - 4 wheel drive, horsebackriding, white water rafting, fly fishing, etc. Have added some pictures from their website. Hosteria Pehoe (PN Torres del Paine) by Trekki If you want to visit PN Torres del Paine and have a roof over your head, the best and most reasonalbe option is Hosteria Pehoé. They have 25 rooms with private bath, dining room with magnificent view to Los Cuernos del Paine, bar and cafeteria. And the most unique view to Los Cuernos del Paine
If you want to stay in a hotel when visiting the park, this would be the most recommendable, as it offers magnificent views of the scenery, and is located more or less in the middle of the park, thus giving you chances for a lot of day hikes. It is also the "less expensive" one. The Hosteria Pehoe also offers boat tours around in the park. Hotel Explora (in PN Torres del Paine) by Trekki If you want to go to PN Torres del Paine and have luxury around you - Hotel Explora is surely one of Patagonia's most luxury one. Beautifully set at the south of Lago Pehoe, at Salto Chico (little waterfall). Despite its "ugly" exterior, it is beautifully done and decorated in the interior. The hotel offers 4 suites and 18 rooms with magnificent views to the Cuernos del Paine, and 6 smaller rooms with view to the Salto Chico. You can book any outdoor tour you like (or can imagine): on foot, on horseback, in boat or by van - the guides are bilingual.
As services they offer dining room, bar, shops, internet, laundry, babysitting, library. Indoor heated pools, outdoor jacuzzis, massage rooms, fitness rooms, sauna is offered on the hotel area. However, this luxury has it's price. It cannot be booked only for 1 night, but in packages of 3, 4 and 7 nights. This includes pick-up from Puerto Natales or Punta Arenas (airport), 3 meals per day, daily tours. the prices for these packages (given for the 3 day one) range from 2000 USD p.p. to 3200 USD p.p., depending on the rooms you choose.

Two stays at Hotel Orly confirmed the advice we were given - that this is one of the best hotel options in Santiago - small, reasonably priced, very comfortable and quiet - and deservedly popular, so booking ahead is most advisable. Prettily furnished (but not in the least fussy)with antique-style pieces and soft colours, and immaculately clean, the rooms are welcome haven from the hustle and bustle of the city streets. Breakfast in the little garden room was a great way to start each day, and the guest's internet access on the first floor was often a good way to end it with a bedtime email to family and friends back home. A book exchange table in the small lounge was a thoughtful touch. I would certainly stay here again, and have already passed the contact on to a friend who will be visiting Santaiago shortly, I know she will be as happy with her stay as we were.
The rooms may be small but they are comfortable and elegantly furnished, as are the public areas with their oriental rugs, soft lighting and attractive floral displays; the location is excellent (a quiet, tree-lined street just a block from a metro station, a short walk from the river and around the corner from busy Providencia Avenue ); breakfast is an ample buffet of fresh fruit, ham, cheese, eggs, breads and cake that can be taken a pretty glass-roofed conservatory; the hotel cafe on the streetfront serves excellent coffee and light meals as well as providing a platform for one of my favourite occupations - people watching (and one of Santiago's best and most popular Italian restaurants, Liguria, is all but next door); rates are very reasonable and the staff are helpful and obliging ... all in all, the Orly is an outstanding example of the sort of hotel all travellers hope they'll find - a charming and individual small hotel Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Pedro de Valdivia 027, ProvidenciaPhone: (56-2) 2318947Directions: 1 block from Pedro de Valdivia metro stationWebsite: http://www.orlyhotel.com/

Gran Hotel Isabel Requielme by TheWanderingCamel Like most of Chillan's buildings, the Gran Hotel doesn't have a lot of style - the result of necessity when virtually the whole city had to be rebuilt following the huge earthquake of 1939. However, what it lacks in elegance it makes up for in its central location, good-sized rooms - ours was huge, comfortable beds, an excellent restaurant, friendly and helpful staff, good pisco sours in the bar and spacious public areas. As the "best" hotel in town, it is busy - we got the last two rooms on our first stay and we were pleased enough with it to book rooms before we left to be sure of having a reservation on our way back to Santiago.
The Gran's location, on a corner facing the Plaza de Armas on one side and the town's busy pedestrian Auraco Street on the other, does mean the rooms facing the park are definitely quieter than those on the street side. Ifg you like to sleep with the window open, ask for a room facing the park. We ate in the hotel restaurant on both nights we stayed in Chillan - good food, well-cooked, with lots of regional dishes and game on the menu and an excellent wine list to complement the food. Quite formal, it's obviously very popular with the local people. I don't know that I'd go as far as ranking the Hosteria de la Colina in the Top 10 of Chile's hotels as one well-known American guidebook does, but it is undoubtedly a most attractive place and its hosts, Glenn and Beverly Aldrich, certainly put a huge amount of thought and effort into making their guests' stay as comfortable and welcoming as possible. Set in lovely gardens, with a views of Volcan Villaricca and the lake, the Hosteria is a charming place. We stayed two nights and had one of the garden cabanas - a pine-lined spacious room with a wide deck and huge windows. There are more rooms in the main house, some with views of the volcano. A wide terrace overlooks the garden at the front of the main house, perfect for pre-dinner drinks and watching the sun go down. Good home-style cooking is the signature of the Hosteria's dining room. It was American Thanksgiving whilst we were there, so dinner that night included turkey and traditional Thanksgiving treats. The menu, which changes every day, is displayed on a chalk board and features three choices of starters and main dishes - and home-made icecream is always on the menu. Breakfast is an ample American feast, offering pancakes, eggs done in different ways (a welcome change from the ubiquitous scrambled encountered everywhere else), bacon, home-baked bread and home-made preserves, and - bliss - grilled tomatoes for those with a hankering for a great British (or Australian) breakfast. Picnic lunch boxes are available by arrangement.
Glenn and Beverley really do go the extra mile in helping their guests have a good time. Loads of books, maps and information are on hand to help you plan your days. Glenn is a fount of local information and more than happy to share that - and his delicious home-smoked trout. Internet access, a daily laundry service, a small bar and games room all add to the amenities. Booking is definitely advisable, especially once the summer season picks up.
