Sheraton 4 Points: Easy access. Just like the states.

by acommon1

Clean. Organized. The staff were extremely helpful.

If there were any headaches, watch out for the reservation staff. The guys are great but I witnessed some interested attitudes from the females. Trust me, I was being a down to earth Midwesterner too. It was almost like they were pissed off that my Spanish sucked. Well, I was trying. The guys were much more patient so I made an effort to work with them.

The rooms were very clean. The room service and cleaning staff should be praised. Pleasant. Hard-working women.

If you care to rent a car, the Sheraton staff can work this out. I used a vehicle to drive around the city and visit the coast.

Location! Location!

Sort of a suburban feel to a portion of the area.

Restaurants and bars are close.

Not to many favorable breakfast options. The area around the hotel seems to be quiet in the morning.

Hotel location allows for easy access to the highways out of town.

triple room: Orly hotel, very good

by luciaguimaraes

The Orly hotel is situated at Providencia,a very good neighborhood. You can find everything you want, good restaurants, shoppings, and the subway is near. The hotel has a very good breakfast included in the rate. The room we stayed was very good with two bathroom. The staf was very helpful. We don´t have anything to complain.

We couldn´t hear any noise at all.Our room was in front of the main street and yet it was very quiet.

Hotel Bauernhaus: German style in Frutillar :)

by coccinella169

I was ending up in the evening in Frutillar and I was so happy that they had a room there at the Bauernhaus. As there were no other other guests I even got their best room - the "Don Cristino" with an enchanting view of Lago Llanguihue and volcano Osorno and a balcony.

I found the house in it´s old-german-style is the most charming one in whole Frutillar Bajo. It has a dining room and some kind of a living room where also breakfast is served. They offer you coffee, cakes (or "Kuchen" in soutern Chile :)) and onces during the day. The whole villa is made of wood and it isn`t perfectly isolated - so you might be freezing there a bit in case you go in Chilenean autumn or winter. They had a heater though in the room and warm blankets on the bed. Bathroom was a bit dated but clean. Breakfast was good, especially their homemade cake. A bit odd was the loud music from the opera Nabucco I had to listen to while having breakfast :).

It was fairly cheap, I think a double room there costs around 50, 60 EUR, depending on season and type of room.

Petit Hotel Vilafranca: Santiago: Bed and breakfast

by coccinella169

For me it was quite difficult to find a nice bed and breakfast in Santiago - I think that type of accomodation is not too popular there :). However, Vilafranca is located in the Providencia area - a very pleasant neighbourhood I found! There are many new buildings, but also some old villas. It is tidy, nice for shopping, there are many restaurants and it is close to the centre!
Vilafranca is located in an old but nicely restored semi-detached house. The reception area had lovely tiles on the floor. The common area includes a very nice living room with an open fireplace and cosy sofas and a charming patio. They provide free use of the internet. The lady at the reception (Gloria) was a font of wisdom about Santiago and very helpful. Breakfast was also ok - fruits, ham (no cheese), jam, cereals ... .
Regarding the room though I was a bit disappointed: it was nicely decorated but it was so tiny! It probably had around 10 square meters - i didn`t know where to put all my luggage actually. There was a small TV on top of the cupboard. The bathroom looked a bit old and had a very small bathtub - actually you could only sit in it, if you aren`t a dwarf :). For the room price of about EUR 50 I didn`t mind that much though :).

Ritz Carlton Santiago: Santiago 5star accomodation

by coccinella169

The only hotel of the Ritz Carlton chain in whole South America can be found in Santiago de Chile. It is located in the las Condes area, obviously a business quarter but also quite a nice neighbourhood. Metro stop El Golf, from where you can easily reach the centre, is just around the corner. It has about 200 rooms. Although I usually prefer small hotels or bed and breakfasts, I nevertheless enjoyed my stay at this hotel :).

I think I do not have to loose too many words about it`s qualities - it is a five star hotel, the breakfast was the best I had in Chile, the rooms are nicely appointed although their "floral style" is probably not everyone`s taste, and there were nice marble bathrooms. The shower was seperated by a glass door and there was also a bathtub. The bathrooms are appointed with Bulgari cosmetic products. Staff was wonderful and not too formal. But - the best thing was their spa: It is located on top floor under an impressive glass cupola. There is a swimming pool, a jacuzzi and sauna and steam room, seperated for ladies and gents. It is so nice to watch the sun going down over Santiago from there, with the Andes mountains in the background :). There is also a gym.

The only strange thing was the steam room - I couldn`t`stay for too long there as it smelled like mould so that I could hardly breathe.

They have a restaurant (prices are ok for european standards) and some kind of souvenir shop. Room prices start at EUR 235.

Hotel Antumalal: Pucón: Travel James Bond style :)

by coccinella169

Hotel Antumalal is located about 2 km from Pucón at Lago Villarica. It was designed in Bauhaus style by Jorge Elton in 1945. The building is perfectly integrated into the wonderful landscape. It is located at the shores of Lago Villarica, probably in the nicest part of that lake and with a lovely park surrounding it. It has about 20 rooms.

Staying there is like a time warp back to the 1950ies or 1960ies - they kept most of the original furniture. The walls are pannelled with araucaria wood - araucaria are very slowly growing, 1000 year old trees - which are very typical for that part of Chile and the area around Pucón is also called Araucaria. Nowadays it is forbidden to use it`s wood. The most interesting features for me were the living rooms - appointed with huge open fireplaces, animal furs on the floor and huge panorama windows overlooking Lago Villarica. The bar was also delightful, there was also a fireplace and I spent the evening there playing board games. They have a swimming pool, a sauna and a tennis court.

The rooms have those wooden pannelled walls as well - and each one of the rooms has a fireplace of it´s own which was nice and cosy. The nice thing is, that they don`t have just room numbers - they put your name on the room door. They provide bath robes and slippers.

Of course there were downsides - it was probably the most expensive hotel I stayed at in Chile and it is a bit dated, so I am not so sure if the price is justified. The bathroom didn`t have the newest equipment. The breakfast was somewhat disappointing.

However - with it´s special architecture, the beautiful, nostalgic fotos on the walls (one of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philipp, who stayed there as well long looong time ago) and the permanent feeling, that Roger Moore could come around the corner with a Pisco Sour in his hands every moment :) - it gave me the feeling to stay in a very special and unique place!

A double room at the Antumalal costs around EUR 135.

Hotel Salto del Laja/Resort Ecológico: Salto del Laja- great views, but ...

by coccinella169

Unless you travel in high season you probably won`t encounter any problems to find an accomodation in Salto del Laja. It might be a small village, but it has plenty of cabanas to rent and the Hotel Salto del Laja where I stayed at.

The hotel didn`t look that bad from outside. It had a reception area and a swimming pool (there was no water in it at the time I was visiting :)). They offer horse riding excursions as well.

The rooms, well - there are different categories. After looking at different rooms, I chose what they call a suite: It had high ceilings, was of a good size and there was also a sofa, a table with 2 chairs and a television (no cable TV, they had some kind of indoor aerial). There was a carpeted floor what I generally find awful, especially in hotels. The bathroom was dated, but clean, apart from the strong black hair I discovered between the towels :). The loo did not work when I arrived, but they sent a guy who could fix that. The best thing about the hotel are the views - it had a large panorama window towards the Salto del Laja waterfall - it was really amazing! I think I never had such a nice view in a hotel before! It was also nice to fall asleep hearing the waterfall in the background! Unfortunately they had locked the door to the terrace with some screws - it would have been nice to sit there for a while in the evening. Possibly they locked it, because the terrace was pretty tumbled down and they feared that someone`s breaking through the terrace floor:).

Breakfast is served in your room and was disappointing- there was a cake which was ok, some old bread, ham and cheese, which didn`t look tempting :). Besided there was some instant coffee, tea and freshly squeezed apple juice which wasn`t good at all. If you walk down a bit there is a restaurant in the hotel area which was surprisingly good - I had a tomato soup and some kind of vegetable tortilla. It was pretty cosy as well, nicely decorated and with a fireplace.

My Résumé is, that this hotel is ok for one night, but I wouldn`t want to spend a whole week there! It is such a nice setting with all that nature and waterfall around it - if they did some investments, they could create a super nice place to stay at! Price of a room was between 25 and about 40 EUR per person, depending on which category you choose.
