Contacted manager via e-mail two months before and sent him 25% of total payment (Western Union). Good value considering to be next to downtown. First disappointment: the address was not correct. We had to walk two blocks carrying all our luggage to another building of apartments an wait about forty minutes before the manager appeared. (OK, we arrived before check in time but weprecisely wrote our arrival time in the emails) He didn't know or had something written, about our arrival (luckily we had printed emails and the Western Union receipt). The apartment, small and cozy had everything except towells, cable TV and wifi (as offered or supposed to be included) Towells were given two days later and never changed. Cable TV and wifi never available although the manager pretended to exist. The manager could only be contacted by phone and was always late for something else. We considered moving to another place but full payment had already been done at arrival and of course we had other activities planned in Santiago before arguing with the manager. Had the return flight at 9 pm (9 hours after checkout) and there was no locker or place to leave safely our luggage, so we had to spend all that time at Santiago's airport.

Unique Quality: Twenty something level building with apartments partly sold and some rented. Pool and well equipped gym. Noisy surround (car traffic). Good view of the city and mountains as far as heavy city smog allows

Directions: Right next to Cal y Canto metro station

Bus lake trip

by mob325

If I take a bus from Puerto Montt to Bariloche will I get a sceneic view of the Mountains and how long does it take, would I be better of taking the boat bus tour?I have a few days in Puerto Montt can I take day trips on the lakes?

Re: Bus lake trip

by Odinnthor

I would personally highly recommend the boat through the Lake District. Is is hihgly scenic and well worth it.

Have great trip. Further questions just come back and ask....d:o)

The bus trip will take about 6 hours and it is lovely. The boat trip is obviously first prize but you need good weather for it! If you take the boat one way, you can take the bus on the return leg.

You could do one of two things if you want to cruise a lake - the best lake is certainly Todos los Santos. You could take the ferry to Peulla and back, about a full day. This is part of the ferry crossing to Bariloche. The alternative is to rent a boat at Petrohue for a trip on the lake. The price will depend on the duration of the trip. This is easy to arrange on the spot.

Travel Tips for Santiago

Recommenc Enaturchile.com

by ChileWillie

We hired Ennaturechile for private transfer to Valpariso/Vina Del Mar and also a brief tour of the area.
Personal was prompt, on time, extremely helpful and valuable in translating into English. Our driver Miguel and tour guide, Carlos, were superb. We felt safe and secure and they never put us in harms way and were protective of the 4 gringos.
Everything was coordinated via email with Victor @ victor.aballai@enaturchile.com.
Can't say enough good things about the servce and reasonable fees. EXCELLENT!

Day Mountain Biking

by ywok

A lot of people have asked me what to do on weekends, and especially on long weekends.
The beauty of Santiago is just how easy it is to get away from the city and into real nature.

If you have a mountain bike, a great trail is Hacienda Las Varas. This is a private ranch, that has good vibes with cyclists. But it´s a reciprocal thing. Be respectful, it´s someone´s farm!
To get there, take the road up to the ski centers. At mile marker (sorry, kilometer marker) 3, there is a curve and a wooden sign that reads HACIENDA LAS VARAS. Take that road (dirt) which makes a right. You will start climbing a pine columned road up, and up. At one point, you will see some simple homes, make sure to say hi to everyone. After about 8, there is a barrier. Say, ¨PUEDO SUBIR?¨with a smile, and they open the electric gate for you.
Great riding starts soon!
Trails and more trails, with stunning views of Santiago on one side. You can come out the same side, or ride down the singletrack and come out a bit closer to Santiago. There is a small ampitheater, where they do german language plays twice a year (December I think).
Don´t spook the horses and respect this beautiful spot. Helmet
gloves
pump
inner tube
water
munchies

Concerts in the football station

by chancay about estadio nacional

It has been the most wonderful concert I´ve ever been. In memory of Che Guevara some of the most famous singers came to Santiago to give a very special concert. The main act was SILVIO RODRIGUEZ, and this was amazing!!!! All the maybe 40000 people in the stadion knew the texts and did sing with him. Very very impressing. one of Silvios songs, one of my favorites:

Mi Unicornio Azul
Silvio Rodriguez

Buses to Mendoza, Argentina

by kiwigal_1

Buses between Santiago and Mendoza run every day on a really interesting stretch of road through the mountain pass.

In winter the buses only run when the pass isn't closed by snow and/or ice so is not a good option in winter if you are running on a tight schedule as it can close for days. It is simply too unpredictable.

Other options to get to Mendoza is by air with LAN which flies between Santiago and Mendoza or Cordoba. www.lan.com

Los mejores restaurants están...

by Ragazzo20
