Centrally Located Apartment Hotel

This is not your typical hotel. Basically, they have a number of apartments in a residential complex near Cerro Santa Lucia, each apartment is accessible by an electronic lock. When you check in, you go to the security desk and ask them to call Ameristar Hotel. After a few minutes, one of the staff will come down to the lobby to meet you and show you to your apartment. It was a bit shocking on our first night there, but after 3 nights (non-consequtive), we were pros at this. (If your Spanish isn't very good - like me - just make sure you know how to ask the guard to call Ameristar. The staff at the hotel can speak English.)

The apartments are quite nice. There is 1 bedroom and a pretty functional kitchen. There is one double bed in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room. The decor varies, depending on the room you're in. All the rooms we stayed in were clean. The higher level rooms have a pretty good view of Cerro Santa Lucia.

The location is also very convenient. It is within walking distance to at least 2 metro lines, a supermarket, 1 block from Cerro Santa Lucia, and about 20 minutes walking from Plaza de Armas. The hotel was also able to store our luggage in their office for us when we were touring other parts of Chile, we just need to call them to pick up our bags before we go.

Nicholas (who manages the hotel, I believe) was very helpful and accessible by email. The room comes with free wifi though there are no phones, so if you need to call, you'll need to have Skype or similar programs.

One more thing: I've seen 2 different addresses (Huerfanos and Merced) listed for the hotel. It's basically the front and back entrance of the apartment complex. The supermarket is on the Merced side.

Cost: Average US$80-$90 a night.

Unique Quality: Great location. Lots of space.
