Santiago to Buenos Aires
by Sinbob2
can I bus direct to BA from ASantiago and if so what times and prices for bus? If not what is last bus and from which bus station santiago to Mendoza. Tks

I dont know about the times or prices but I second PAVANZYL's idea about breaking the trip up. The distance is deceptive on a map and even the most comfortable buses can get old on a trip that long. Mendoza is a nice stop over city too.

It is 20 scheduled hours from Santiago to BA. Time varies slightly due to border crossing delays. The buses to BA leave from Terminal Santiago near the Universidad de Santiago metro station. Buses leave from there or the Terminal Alameda next to it for Turbus buses. Take a day bus as the scenery is great.
Travel Tips for Santiago
Rio Mapocho
by kiwigal_1
Santiago is located in a river valley in the area around the rivers Mapocho and Maipo. The Mapocho river runs through the city and has parks and walkways along the side of it as it runs through Providencia. The river is very fast flowing and is less polluted than it looks although in summer can smell kind of interesting! In 2008 works started to create a separate drain for contaminants so that sewage etc is not running directly into the Mapocho without treatmet first. The system should be running by 2010.
The parks alongside the river are a nice place to walk and there are some lovely fountains that get lit up at night.
One interesting fact about the river that amazes me is that the "Costanera Norte" highway was built underneath the river in the section through Providencia. It is a 3 lane highway on each side.
day trip to the sea (and vino!!!)
by willy_wonka
from santiago, there are quite a few day trips that can be had. one of those is to the beautiful seaside port of valparaiso, and its neighboring coastal town, vina del mar. this was easily done in a comfortable daytrip from santiago, with a stop also on the way to a vineyard, in the wine growing district just outside of santiago. if you have some extra days in santiago, and have not planned on going anywhere else in chile, do take the little trip out to valparaiso, and see chile's seafaring history. stopping off at the vineyard doesnt hurt either! :)
Sophisticated Interior Design

A nice place to watch the actor/model and richer scene of Santiago. I haven't eaten at the place, but the bar part is nice with cool sofas and intersting insects in the tables. Nice design, great wineselection and a good service. Nothing required
At last, something for vegetarians in Santiago
by April_M about hotel majestic
As a vegetarian, Santiago De Chile was a very frustrating place to eat. With meat being the ubiquitous staple, discovering the Santiago city center hotel majestic Hindu restaurant, was like finding an Oasis in the desert.
While the decor is nothing special, the service is amazing and the food, even better. As a big fan of the Indian food in Canada, I tried my favorite dish, vegetable vindaloo (called vegetable bind aloo here). This dish served up all the spiciness of its counterpart I'd eaten in Canada, but was somehow unique. The chana masala was also a wonderful blend of spices. Delicious!
Up the Hill
by filipdebont
Cerro means Hill in Spanish, so Cerro Santa Lucia means Santa Lucia Hill.
In fact it is a small hill in the city centre of Santiago (is only 70 metres of height).
This is the place where the city is founded, for years it was a bold rocky hill, but the mayor Vicuna Mackenna gave order to change it into a beautiful city park.
