Best transportation to use!

by fjtota

Hi, Hope someone can tell us which is the best form of transportation to take from the Airport to our Hotel the Radisson on Avenida Vitacura.

Re: Best transportation to use!

We stayed at a hotel near the Radisson last year and used TransVip to get there from the airport (www.transvip.net). The price was about US$10 per person. You can make an online reservation or just go to their counter at the airport (the "official transport" booths are the first thing you'll see once you get through customs). Taxis are also available. Hope this helps!

Check the prices at the desks inside the customs area. A Transvip a couple of weeks ago was 6,400 pesos pp to Vitacura or Las Condes. An official taxi was 18,000. For the difference, it might be worth it to not have to wait for a van to depart or have to drop others off on the way. It depends on how tired you are at the end of your flight.

Travel Tips for Santiago

This is a map I found in the internet with all the important places in the centrum of Santiago. You see "La Moneda", "la plaza de armas", el cerro "Santa Lucia" and a lot of more interesting and beautiful places.

Visit Vina Del Mar and Valparaiso

by Ellemay

Booked tour through Orly Hotel with About Chile. Our guides were fabulous. We drove the Casablanca and Curacavi valleys and arrived at Valparaiso a lovely old city build around the harbour and hills. We went to Bellavista Hill to visit Pablo Neruda house and the Sotomayor Square, to see the Navy Museum. After we tool the Concepcion elevator up to Atkinson and Gervasoni walks. After drove to Vina del mar to have lunch at Pacifico a lovely seafood restaurant.

Subway ...fast, confortable, modern!

by APaulo

Subway system it's the best way to know Santiago,if you want to travel fast and have no time to loose. Taxi it's another possible way of transport. Aren't expensive and normally they don't try to "take a long turn". Buses are also another choice...

Make dinner reservations early

by Quero

If you are a hotel guest, the cost of your dinner, no matter which of the five restaurants you eat at, is included in your package. A brief description of the choices:
Italian--Don Giovanni
French--Fourchette D'Or
Chilean--Cafe de la Plaza

Of these, the Italian is the most sought after. If you really want to have dinner there, make your booking the day before. The food at all these outlets is good, but not spectacular. For example, the chese fondue at the Swiss restaurant is tasty enough, but it's just a bit too thick. So buy a bottle of white wine and dump some in to thin it out.

Speaking of wine, Chile is justly famous for its reds. Make sure to try some. Don't worry if you can't finish up that second bottle before the end of the evening--they'll put it away for you and you can have it served to you the next day at dinner, regardless of which restaurant you choose.

La Chascona - Neruda's quirky house

by maddogrick

If there might be one "must do" thing in Santiago, it would be a visit to Neruda's second home, built especially for his mistress. The tour guides know their stuff and will provide all sorts of insights into the habits and personality of Neruda and the many collectables that are contained here... and there are a lot of interesting and amusing curios to see. Some very interesting works of art are also on display, some by his close friend Diego Rivera. His library is also worthy of mention. His Nobel prize is on display but, unfortunately, only a partial collection of the many books he possessed are now available. When Pinochet came to power, Neruda was exiled and his home was trashed. Most of his immense library, one of the finest in South America, was torched and only a few items were saved. Definitely worth seeing!
