SANTIAGO TO VALPARAISO

by bean4bean4

we will be departing on a cruise on Feb 1st in Valparaiso. We will be in Santiago in the morning of Feb 1st and would like to hire a taxi for the transportation. Can you suggest a good and reliable company? (we thought about the bus, but it will be easier by taxi with luggage).

thank you

If you are going straight from the airport, there are booths before you leave the customs area where you can hire a taxi. They have a fixed price airport to cruise port. If you will be staying in Santiago the night before, your hotel can arrange this for you but would probably need advance notice.

We found the Turbus very practical. They can store luggages under the bus and give you a luggage ticket. cost 7USD from Santiago to Valparaiso.

Travel Tips for Santiago

Pablo Neruda & other persons of Chile's history

by globetrott

Monuments for famous people of chiles history can be found all over Santiago and here you will see a few of my favorite ones :
1 &2) Pablo Neruda was a chilenean novelist who won the Nobel prize for Literature and his former house is a museum nowadays, In Valparaiso you will find another house and museum of Pablo Neruda.
3)Ramon Vinay (1912-1996) Cantante Lirico
4)Salvador Allende, former president of Chile
5)Portales, who-ever that is, in any case it is one of the many monuments in the small park behind the seat of the president

Casablanca - Vineyards

by kiwigal_1

One of the places that is easy to visit from Santiago is Casablanca Valley - known for its wine industry. Casablanca is approximately one hour drive from Santiago towards Viña del Mar / Valparaiso.

On our daytrip we decided to go to the Viña Morandé where we stopped for lunch at their fabulous restaurant. The food and wine was divine!

Address: Ruta 68, Km 61, Casablanca

Give Pullman Bus a try

by Andre_C10002

There are many bus companies in Chile but the bigger ones are Turbus and Pullman Bus. For me Pullman Bus is better. Their staff is friendlier, food on board is better and their lines are smaller. The buses are the same and ticket fees too.

Give Pullman Bus then a try.

a Special Place

by camilo74 about El Rincon de Los Canallas

This reatuarant started working during the 80's, it was a place where opositors to the dictatorship used to gather, and they even had to say a passord for getting in. "Carne Mechada" with salad a large piece of meet, cooked with carrots and other stuff (i'm not a chef)

Avoid "tourists" at la Vega

by Andapandapie

After the Mercado Central, try going west just across the river to la Vega, the central fresh fruit & vegetable market. Covers about 3 or 4 blocks, much larger and more colorful than the Mercado Central with a wonderful earthiness and vibrancy. THIS is the hypermarket of Santiago. Better food and much better vibes with almost no (readily identifiable) tourists. Bought some great soccer shirts there for about $7 (have groceries and dry goods too). Great place to just take in the scene, wandering the aisles and chatting with the vendors. I'm just learning Spanish and everyone here (and elsewhere in Santiago) was very gracious in helping me with this.
