If you want absolute city centre - this is it!

Unique Quality: A lobby is quite small, but the hotel really begins from sixth floor. There is a nice restaurant and a small pool area. Whole center of the building is open up to 12th floor and rooms are every side of building.

Galerias Hotel, Santiago, hotel ok ? location ok?

by NSWP

G'day, we will be staying in Santiago for 3 nights, next February, precruise.

Looking at Galerias Hotel, anybody know if this hotel is ok and location ok?

Thanks.

Don't know the hotel but the location wouldn't be my choice - it's quite new, upmarket residential, and rather sterile. It's also a fair way out of the city centre.

We stayed at the charming small Hotel Orly in Providencia and thoroughly enjoyed it. Providencia is much closer to the downtown area, still largely residential but more interesting that El Condes.

I agree,
from Providencia by subway you can reach downtown very easely.
Station could be Tobalaba, or El Golf or Alcantara (already at the barrio Las Condes)
I have been here at the Rugenda hotel (barrio El Golf), very good location.
I can't remember the price, but I thing it's easy to find it out!

The Galerias Hotel is right downtown. If you google it you get an incorrect google map. The website has a correct map.

It is a very good hotel within waking distance, or a short metro ride, of all the city center sights, museums etc. It is also the starting point for the Tren del Vino, the bus/wine train to the Colchague valley. They also arrange normal wine tours as the hotel has a connection to a hotel in the Colchagua valley. The hotel restaurant, Vichuquen, specialises in modern interpretations of typical Chilean dishes. There is a very small pool, more for a dip than anything else but welcome in February.
If you are looking at a downtown hotel, it is a good one.

The Galerias is a very nice hotel. We stayed there when we first arrived in Chile. Great breakfast. The restaurant is excellent too. It is about 100m from a Metro station, one or two blocks from the Opera and easy walking distance to cerro Sta Lucia and the crafts market opposite the road. If it was cheaper we would have stayed longer!

Thanks to you all for your replies, Galerias it is for 3 nights, then onto Valparaiso to embark Star Princess, 30 days around to Fort Lauderdale.

Cheers, Les
