Thank you for your suggestion! Will it be a problem on the metro with luggage? I heard the buses leave every 15 mins to Valparaiso. What's the best way to see Valparaiso in 4 hours...walking or by taxi? Thanks for any help...tours were very pricey.... Is finding someone who speaks English at the stations a problem? My espanol is limited.
Thanks

2 persons also interested in getting from Marriott Hotel to Veendam on January 30th. With 4 large pieces of luggage between us the idea of numerous modes of transport doesn't seem practical. What are your thoughts after the various responses you have recieved?
Travel Tips for Santiago
Lost? Get a map!!!
by IIGUANA
I often find Santiago too big and with many, many streets, it an easy city where you can get lost. Now, there are many of maps everywhere, but if you want to find an exact location, try the website www.mapcity.com. It's simply the best for Santiago (and Valparaýso and Viýa as well). Just type the address and you'll get the map of the address and its surroundings. Or even better, if the address you're looking for is within 5k, then type the "from" address and the "to" address, and the map will show you the shortest route and how to get there.
It's one of the best in the web, and if me that I live in Santiago use it, you, being a tourist, might find it more than useful.
white water rafting just outside of santiago
by rkearns
the most fun and breathtaking adventure i had in santiago was actually outside santiago, about an hour to be exact.
you can take a cab to san jose de maipo, which is about an hour ride. the cab will pick up other people along the way (whether you like it or not), and that will cut the cost of your trip.
have the driver drop you at cascada de animas, a family run business that hosts tours for hiking, horseback riding, and white river rafting. you may want to reserve a cabin, which is both reasonably priced, and very comfortable, even in the winter.
the cascada de animas is surrounded by towering mountains and soft green meadows. the restaurant on the premises is a bit pricey, but worth it, especially if you get a seat overlooking the river maipo.
Getting to Valparaiso
by TheWanderingCamel
Getting to Valparaiso from Santiago could hardly be be easier - or cheaper. Buses leave every 15 minutes from the Terminal San Borja, near the Central Station and the one and a half hour journey costs only $7. Seats are allocated, the buses are clean, very comfortable with reclining seats , seem to be properly maintained and are bang on time - we were so impressed.
There are several companies operating this route, all charge the same fare and would appear to offer the same efficient service.
The terminal in Valparaiso is on Av Pedro Montt, near the Congress Building and Plaza O'Higgins.
This is exotic food.

This restaurant it´s very nice, and the food is excellent, I really like to go there with friends, and have a good time, the atmosphere is a mixture of polynesian an african stile.
I recomend you this place, maybe it´s not very chilean but its a good place Uff very difficult, I´m semi vegetarian so I allways ask for fruit salads or fish and there are excellent, but the food it´s nice I can smell it.
City Bike Tour Santiago Chile
by thompsonfriend
My finance and I did a great city tour of Santiago, Chile in late March. It was great. Relaxing and informative. Bilingual guides and great fast responsive staff via email, who helped us line up wine tours as well! I highly recommend La Bicicleta Verde for city tours. We took the afternoon tour, which they say is different than the morning tour, and it was great. We then rented bike on Friday on the way back through Santiago before going to B.Aires and basically did the morning tour route on our own. Check it out. www.labicicletaverde.com
