Transport to hotel

by willvb

Hi,

How much is a taxi fare from Santaigo Arturo Merino airport to Hotel Providencia in Francisco Noguera 146 approx? Are there other (cheaper) ways? We are with two and lots of lugage!!

Thanks

Taxi and shuttle bus are about the same price for two persons.
We paid about 8 or 9.000 pesos. And having a lot of luggage I would recommend travelling by taxi.
There are also regular buses with limited stops.

If you do go with a taxi, you must be more aware and on your toes as they are the ones who will try to rip off a jet lagged, inattentive visitor.

-- Make sure they have an official ID and the car is a real taxi, has orange plates, etc.
-- Make sure you negotiate before accepting the service for the total price and it should only be 8000-8500ish for Providencia.
-- Be careful about the currency switch or fake currency in change or no hay cambio scams.

If you don't want to hassle with it, take the TransVIP shared shuttle van where you prepay a posted fixed price at their booth at the airport. Might be 15 to 30 minutes longer to get to your hotel but at least you don't have to worry about getting taken for a ride.

Tipping is not customary for taxis unless a special service is done (like maybe substantial help with your luggage) and then figure 10% or 500 pesos.

There is a stand inside the arrivals hall where you can book your taxi before you even exit customs. They will only be official taxis. For two of you + a lot of luggage, it would probably be better than the van service. No waiting for other passengers, no stops to drop others off on the way to your hotel. For returning to the airport when you leave, you can book a Transvip or Turtransfer van or phone a radiotaxi:

How much do the official taxis charge for Providencia? Safer and better than negotiating with the pushy mass outside Customs but the OP was asking for cheap. The only way to do a taxi cheap is to negotiate with a hawker outside Customs. Other than that, a boring but maybe scenic ride through town in a shared van is still cheaper and those services (Tur and Tranvip) seem to have no problem handling luggage.

An official taxi to Providencia will cost about 15,000 Chilean pesos. The van around 10,000 for two. The OP now has the information on van and taxi and can decide.
