Gorgeous Mountain View Property

I stayed in this hotel for just two nights at the end of a South American cruise. Oh how I wish I knew in advance how simply wonderful it is - I would have stayed for a week!

The checkin staff are very efficient. There must have been perhaps 100 of us checking in after the cruise and we were asked to wait until 1pm when all rooms would be ready. It was a bit of a wait, but 1pm was still a couple of hours before international checkin time and on the dot of 1pm we all got our room keys. While we waited the hotel served complimentary tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits.

Our room was on the 6th of 7 floors. As you can see from the attached pic, we had a spectacular view of the pools, gardens, and the Andes through a huge window which was angled at the centre to make the most of the view.

Our room was spacious and very comfortable, with two wonderful 4ft beds. Sheraton now use those amazing Heavenly Beds that Westin advertise, but of course they're all part of the one group. It's hard not to have a terrific night's sleep in these beds.

The poolside area is generous with plenty of sunbeds that most people pull into the shade of the large leafy green trees that are set in pockets throughout the gardens.

There's a gazebo beside the pool which houses a pool bar and a full restaurant, which was so good that it deserves a seperate tip.

There are three other restaurants inside the hotel, plus an excellent and spaciously comfortable bar.

Service throughout is faultlessly efficient and friendly.

I would advise you to ask for a room on the 4th, 5th, or 6th floors as the views are best there. There is a 7th floor, but you must pay a supplement to stay there. There's a tower block which is part of the hotel but is treated seperately and is supposed to be more upmarket. However, from what I could see the views from all rooms there are of the City.

Unique Quality: The view is one of the best hotel room views I have ever seen.

I used to sit in the room each evening reading and watch the colour of the mountains change as the sun set - what a breathtaking sight. The view is also of part of the city and the reflecting setting sun turns a couple of them to glistening gold....against the pinkish purple hues of the evening mountains it's unbeatable.

Sheratons Luxury Version !

San Cristobal Tower shares reception, lobby area , outdoor and sport facilities with the Convention Hotel and Conference Center, but provides an additional reception area and escalators to the very luxurious towers (even butler service on some floors offered)

Unique Quality: A very special feature is San Cristobal`s "L Etoile Lounge", a beautiful and luxurious rooftop restaurant and bar with wonderful views, especially at sunset and at night, yet with the same price-level as the other restaurants of the hotel. (see tip on Convention Center Sheraton)

provides long walks to downtown !

Sheraton Santiago Hotel and Convention Center is a modern, efficient and very well serviced (business-)-hotel with nice rooms, friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is situated in Santiagos Providencia-neighborhood by the Mapocho River in a beautiful park setting near Cristobal Hill surrounded by hospitals , thus, more than anticipated, separated from downtown. Shops and public traffic are not easily reached, most guests rely on the services of (not too expensive) taxis. The hotel is about 15 minutes away from the International Airport .
Amenities include a nice outdoor pool garden area with grill-restaurant, indoor pool and sauna, fitness center, massage etc.Two restaurants and a coffee-shop as well as a lounge-bar cater for all needs. Staff is efficent , helpful and friendly, rooms modern, quiet and equipped with internet-access.

Unique Quality: Over-average outdoor facilities in a beautiful garden with vineyard, tennis courts, pool and grill restaurant.

A very special feature of the hotel is the adjacent SAN-CRISTOBAL-TOWER, sharing reception area and outdoor facilities with the hotel and convention center; it is a more luxurious, upscale and expensive option, with a superb rooftop restaurant "L`Etoile Lounge", where also guests of the convention hotel are welcome and pampered by the friendly staff. A cocktail after sunset with the wonderful view over the city-lights and the silhouette of the snow covered Andes mountains is a remarkable experience.

Santiago Airport Bus

by bensonyee

I would like to know if there is an airport bus from Santiago Arturo Merino Benitez Airport to Sheraton Santiago Hotel and Convention Center on Santa Maria Ave. If so, where would I be able to access the bus timetable and bus fare costs?

Also, is there a bus from the port of Valparaiso, where the Royal Carribean Cruiseline disembarks, to the hotel stated above?

Lastly, I will be in town for a couple days. Any recommendations for sightseeing, etc.?

Re: Santiago Airport Bus

by Huentetu

The airport buses do not go to hotels. They follow a fixed route connecting to a few metro stops downtown only. There are shared vans which you can get to a specific address but, if there are 2 or more of you, a taxi will work out about the same. You book the transport you want at the desks before you exit from the customs area into the public areas of the airport.
To get transport from the port to your hotel you can take a taxi or a van. People often share these and you can include a tour of Valparaiso, vineyards or Santiago.
There is a public bus which goes between Valparaiso and Santiago but it is not easy to navigate with luggage and without Spanish.

Sheraton Santiago Hotel is less then 1/4 hour from the airport (on the way to Valparaiso), they should have a shuttle transfer and maybe it's also free, check at concierge's hotel.

Re: Santiago Airport Bus

Santiago hotels do not run shuttle buses. You will have to take a taxi. To avoid hassle, buy a ticket at one of the kiosks just after customs before you enter the terminal, itself. To get to Valparaiso you will also have to arrange your own transportation. A taxi should cost US$100-120.

There is lots to see, go downtown and have lunch in the Mercado Central, take the cable car up the Cerro San Cristóbal right behind the hotel, go to the Feria de Artesanos at Los Dominicos, visit one of the many museums, the PreColombino is very good.
