Viña del Mar
by kiwigal_1
Viña del Mar is about an hour and a half drive from Santiago through the Pacific Cordillera and on the coast. This coastal city is bustling with life and not really a relaxing beach to stay at but nice to visit nonetheless. There are many new apartment buildings going up in Viña as people buy homes out of Santiago or a second home to spend weekends and holidays. The city has a mall, beachfront (not apt for swimming), markets and even a casino.
Metro system
by bobmyx
The subway (metro) system is very clean modern and inexpensive. The cost , one way, is 340 pesos (50 cents US) and covers the entire city. All stops sell tickets until 10:00 PM then you must use ticket vending machines.
Most stations have ATM and news stands.
Trains run underground and above ground.
No need to run for a train, another will be along in a few minutes.
Subway maps and guides are conspicuos and plentiful.
Isidora Goyenechea st
by IIGUANA
Isidora Goyenechea st, in Las Condes, is quite a modern street, with lots of restaurants. They're quite more expensive, as you're talking about one of Las Condes' most exclusive street, but then again, it's nothing out of the ordinary.
You'll find local food, french food, italian, irish and the usual american restaurants (Fridays, Ruby Tuesday, Hooters and Starbucks)
Very interesting house + an excellent guide
by jenellim
I love my visit to La Chascona, in no small due to my adoration of Neruda and an excellent, enthusiastic English-speaking guide who was familiar with the arts, Gonzalo. The house itself is very quaint as it is built like a ship and showcases the various collections of Neruda. If you don't read Spanish, be warned that the gift shop does not carry English books of Neruda's poems except for one on his birds poems (!). I hope they stock up soon.
