Hotel La Peninsula Marina Resort

Puerto Montt - approx 10 minutes from city center

Hotel La Península Resort & Spa Puerto Montt is rated as 5 star. While the accommodations are satisfactory I would not rate this hotel 5 star or classify it as a resort / spa by USA standards. I consider 5 star resorts to be plush and loaded with extras while this hotel offers neither which is an indication of the reasonable price. I'm not saying don't stay here. Only don't expect 5 star service, plush accommodations, and the spa services are very limited. It falls short once you get past all the marble. The staff is not the most personable or welcoming and the English is limited. However, you will find limited English in most hotels in this area.

The rooms and bathrooms are adequately sized, comfortable, and clean with the usual bathroom amenities including a hairdryer, but not plush in anyway like a 5 star hotel usually offers. While the carpet in the rooms seems without any padding the floor in the bathroom is heated. An added plus on cold days.

Location: Maybe a couple miles from city center. There is not anything note worthy within walking distance. Only drive in or near this city if you are a brave soul. It's best to take a taxi which the hotel could arrange. While you are practically at the sea shore there is no shore access from the hotel.

Overall, I found this hotel only a quiet place to lay my head at night and felt the hotel was a little stark and cold. The reason this review might seem a little harsh is because of their touted 5 star luxury rating.

Unique Quality: The rooms take full advantage of the sea view with the near room-width windows. You can watch the ships and fishing boats come and go out to sea from your room.

If you need a quiet room this may be the hotel for you. Puerto Montt can be noisy with traffic and night clubs blaring music late at night. Remember they don't eat dinner until 9 or 10 pm.
