Bus Norte runs a daily bus from Puerto Montt to Bariloche - leaving PM at 0830, arriving Bariloche at 1500

Transportes Cruz del Sul also runs a bus between these two towns, departing at 1045, arriving Bariloche at 1800 - but I think they're only twice a week, Thursday and Sunday.

There is no direct service between Pucon and Bariloche. I know you can do it by going via San Martin or Orsono but I don't know which company/cmpanies do it.

Bus Norte is a sister company of Cruz del Sur. If you are traveling from Santiago you can book both tickets at once and connect in Osorno to Bus Norte. Turbus also does a connection. There are more companies (Del Valle, Tas Choapa) doing the route as well and more in summer. Usually they leave around 10 am or around midday.

Collegio San Francisco Javier

by globetrott

Collegio San Francisco Javier is an old church and monastery-school in a sidestreet of Puerto Montt, unfortunately the church was locked, when I had been there, but at least the facade of the blue school-building looked great in the old architecture of the 19th century, when the german settlers started to cultivate the land, and monks helped to build up the eduction and religion.

The giant couple

The giant couple is a strange monument, a bit funny and at the same time a bit strange but at least worth taking a photo. Click on my photos and see the size of these gigantic sculptures in comparison to the people standing there in front of the "monument"

a collection of old steam-locomotives

by globetrott

There was a time in Chile when the train had an important role in the transportation of goods and persons, but that was a long time ago and there are not a lot of train-lines left over. Most of the trafic is done by cars and buses nowadays and at a few places you can still see some old steam-trains like here in Puerto Montt, close to the main square and close to the pier. One of the locomotives had the inscription 1906-1977.
These locomotives are on display on the square, no fences around of them and they might be a great place to play for your children.

Puerto Montt, Chile

by flifish

Puerto Montt is located in the X region of Chile, also known as the Lake region. It's also a great place to start you Chilean Patagonian tour. The city is not yet over run by Americans and English is limited so keep your translator handy. While many abandon the city and head straight for the more tourist oriented Puerto Varas I preferred staying in the city because it's not so cookie cutter perfect. The city of Puerto Montt has obviously spent a lot of money in beautifying it's coast and it was money well spent. The walking pathway/park is a great way to enjoy a sunny day. And like most all cities in Chile it has a delightful city square near the ocean front with a modern fountain.

On a sunny day you will see a city whizzing with life surrounded by snow capped mountains, colorful fishing boats, and friendly people.

Transportation: Lan Chile offers non-stop flights from Santiago or you can fly there from Argentina. Also, many take the 12 - 14 hour bus trip from Santiago at night and sleep their way to or from Puerto Montt.
