Arica - stopover before entering Peru
by kiwigal_1
"Arica"
The reason I came to Arica was not really to come and see it but as a means to enter Peru from Chile more cheaply. We flew from Santiago on Sky Airlines to Arica. From there we got a colectivo taxi which took us across the border into Tacna Peru. It was quick and convenient and much cheaper than an international flight.
I am also told that the trip from Arica to La Paz is well worth it. Scenery includes parks and volcanoes. I have not done this trip though.
Oh yeah... one observation... it looked very flat and dusty!

Arica and Parque Nacional Lauca
by darthmilmo
I arrived to Arica early in the morning. I decided to go straight to Parque Nacional Lauca. Before heading out though, I did get to see a few sites in Arica
After realizing the scenery in the PN Lauca was much like that in Southern Bolivia, I decided to head out of the Park and back to Bolivia.
PARQUE NACIONAL LAUCA 1

The tour to Parque Nacional Lauca ferried us from sea-level to 4500+m. All tour vans were required to carry oxygen masks to resuscitate any dying tourists.
For me, having ascended to and descended from the altiplano several times the last few days, I was alright.
The tour made many stops along the way to spot some geoglyphs on the hills, visit adobe churches in tiny towns and the odd ruins, so the ascent was done slowly.
Later for breakfast, we were all served coca tea.
Todo bien.
