The Inca is the cheapest way to enjoy Portillo and is aimed to younger skiers and snowboarders. Rooms are small and bathrooms are communal, one for women, one for men. Inca guests take their meals in the self-service cafe (where the ski school also eats), but otherwise they have access to all other hotel facilities. The Inca is only a few meters away from the main Hotel entrance.
The Octagon lodge is an economical alternative just steps away from the main Hotel Portillo. Each room offers four bunks and a private bathroom. These are great deals for families and groups of friends. The good news is that guests in the Octagon Lodge enjoy all of the hotel's services including all the meals in the main dining room. Certainly this is the best cost/benefit choice if you can sacrifice some comfort at your room.
If you stay at the main Hotel you can either have a room with Valley view (and the parking lot) or the gorgeous Inca Lake. I don't feel that the price difference worths it.
Service and food are superb. As good as they can be.
The are three choices if you plan to ski more than once in Portillo (and if you are short on money). You can stay either at the Octogono or Inca rooms, both belong to the Portillo Hotel, so they are secure and clean. But not really cheap. The other choice is to stay in Los Andes, not a very cool town but only 30 minutes away.
When stopped only here, to eat something. But the hotel impressived me and you can be shure that it is not cheap ....
