We stayed at Alecon for 2 nights . We got off a cruiseship & were on our way to Santiago.
We were looking for an inexpensive place in a central location. couldn't have found a better place. The hostel is located on Concepcion Hill, easily accessible by either walking or a funicular. The hostel provided quiet, comfortable and immaculately clean accomodations, basic and sufficient breakfast was included, our room was en-suite. The owner, Alberto, was the most informative and gracious host. Not only did he answered all of our questions and inquiries about Valparaiso & Vina del Mar and Chile, in general,, but went about, at length, to provide map with detailed point of interests, so we could do all the sightseeing ourselves and saved us money on hiring a guided tour. As part of the service, he includes a pick up at the port or bus station, as long as he is given notice of the arrival.
we originally wanted to stay at Brighton,as it's being so praised by Frommers & fodors, etc,
but the room with the view we wanted to book was unavailable. We're glad we stayed at Alecon, it was literally around the corner from Brighton . we had room with a view & for less.
Unique Quality: The facility provides free Spanish course, might be useful for students intending to study at one of the universities & need prep course before beginning of the semester.
Directions: Cerro Concepcion /Allegro
