Currency by Ciambella
Peso is the Chilean currency. However, shops use the same sign as the dollar ($) instead of the word peso. The paper notes come in denomination of 1000 and up, while the coins cover the range of smaller denominations. The old coins are larger and easier to recognize than the new ones. The new 100-peso coin (worth about 15 cent in euro) is identical in size, shape and colour with the one-euro coin, so if you are visiting Chile from Europe, be careful not to have both currencies mixed in the same pocket.
