transportation from Vina del Mar to Santiago

by lynnarnold1

What is the best way to get from our hotel in Vina del Mar to Santiago central, or to Santiago airport? One couple in our group will go directly to the airport, and wants a quick, economical method. The other couple may stay a day or two in the city before leaving the country.
Many thanks.
Lynn

Buses are not the best option if they have a lot of luggage, but it is the cheapest way. For the airport, they should get off at Pajaritos metro station and not go on to the terminal. The attendant on the bus will usually ask where you want to get off. From Pajaritos metro station you can get an airport bus (every 15 mins or so) or a taxi to the airport. Not including waiting for the bus, that should take 20 mins or so and the bus from Viña to there will take about 1.5 hrs. They need to allow enough time for getting to the airport for check in. So if they need to check in 2 hours before their flight, they need to start out from Viña about 4 hours before their flight.

the airport is on the way to Santiago from Viña del Mar or Valparaiso.
Once I did myself from Viña to airport. After we checked that a charter bus or taxi it was a robbery because what asked did not justify the service.
btw *to be paid only by USD*
we were four with small luggage, we took the bus at terminal and from hotel to terminal by taxi, this kind of trip is cheap to do by taxi so if you had a lot of luggage you could take more taxis.
Then, before Santiago, the bus stopped *there is a regoular bus stop* and some taxis were already there awaiting for people going to airport (very short drive)....
It's been in 2004 or 2003 ?? this meant it was quite common practise to do so.
I do not think it changed, maybe today it could be improved and there could be also a coffee shop at bus stop.

Travel Tips for Viña del Mar

Casino

by IIGUANA

Vina del Mar's Casino is the biggest casino in all of Chile. It's the first also. It has what every casino in the world has.
Dress code: no shorts allowed or sandals. Try wearing a shirt and pants. If you go with jeans, you won't be able to go into all the rooms.
It's usually crowded after 8 pm, and it open until 7 am. People from all ages go there and play some money.
The casino now has a 5 star hotel next to it. So if you want luxurious and expensive acomodations, this is the place.
One other thing: the casino itself has some nice gardens which are worth looking at.

RENACA

by Aquamantos

This is one of the most important beaches in Vina del Mar. Lot of tourists from all over the world come here every year during Summer time. This is a beach town that offers always the best service, activities all day long, there are lot of pubs, restaurants etc.

Wulff Castle

by IIGUANA

I lived most of my childhood years in Viña del Mar, but I still don't know what this castle is all about. I just pass it along and never been inside. I think it's open to the public. Anyway, it's one of Viña's landmarks. If you want to take a picture like the one on the intro page, you've got to go to Avenida Peru. That's the spot.
One more thing: look at the big tree on top of the rock, right beside the Wulff Castle. I still don't know how it grows there.

A great stop over

"To relax and swimm in warm season I quess :)"

While visiting Vina del Mar the sea was so cold the legs almost got cramps if you were to long in the water. So almost nobody was swimming. But this is a great place to come and dance the night away. Everything is near - restaurants, bars, clubs, beach, parks, many many hotels and all the needed things a tourists need. That is why I can admit this is very touristed area.
