As a teacher, I can only go on extended vacations in June and July. We want to go to Chile -- Valparaiso and Vina del Mar -- Argentina, and Uruguay next summer. I know it's winter then. Is it worth going? Will it be very cold? Advice, please!!

The south will be colder than Santiago, as will the coast. July is probably the coldest, wettest month. The north is dry and a lot warmer.

One popular way of sight seeing in Vina del Mar was by horse drawn carriage.
However the weather was not as ideal as we were visiting Vina del Mar, and also we were also short in time as we only arrived here in the late afternoon, and the next day we wanted to visit Valparaiso.
Brunet Castle - Castillo Brunet - Chateau Brunet
At the other side of the river (Estero Marga Marga), you find Cerro Castillo (Castle Hill).
One of the castles is Brunet Castle.
It was designed by architect Alfredo Azancot. It was built in a Medieval Style; it looks like a castle from a fairy tale.
Sea wolves are quite common on cold waters. These guys just eat and lay down their huge bodies on the rocks. You'll be able to see them rest and sometimes play.
Definately the best place to see them is on the way to Con Con, past Cochoa Beach.
If you come over in winter, and there is too much waves, you won't probably see them. Come on, these guys need to rest. They won't struggle to keep themselves on top of the rocks...
This Beach town is really cute! There are a lot of restaurants, bars, and stores to check out. The sea food is really good and inexpensive in this area of Chile. This town has a lot of young locals and the bars are fun and crowded 7 days a week.
