Kisses for the ladies
by IIGUANA
As most latin countries, when you say hi to a lady, you don't give out your hand. That's consider rude. When you say hi to her, you've got to give her a kiss on the cheek. More than a kiss, it's just a cheek-to-cheek salute. This is both for men and women. It's just one kiss, so don't try to give more, unless of course she's a pretty lady...

Muelle Vergara
by IIGUANA
The Muelle Vergara was used for putting cargo on the ships at the beginning of the XX century. Since Valparaiso grew as a port, this pier wasnt useful anymore and it stayed there, unattended. After a while, the city took care of it, and some restaurants and bars took place on it. From this time on, the bars and the restaurants have become bad, but the structure is still there. You can visit it and see the city from another angle.
Next to this landmark, some artcraft is sold, mostly on the weekends, and you can buy good stuff at a cheap price. Chileans do not bargain, so if you want to bargain, don't push it a lot, otherwise you won't buy anything.
Viña del Mar

"Viña del Mar"
Viña is a city in the Vth Region of Chile located on the seaside just north of Valparaiso. Viña is a summer hangout for Santiaguinos but also has a large population of residents all year round. Although it is located next to the beach it is more city-like than beach-resort like. The beaches alongside Viña del Mar are not actually safe for swimming although in the heat of summer of course people go into the water.
"Nightlife"
Viña has a very active nightlife with pubs, restaurants and places to dance. The waterfront area is also developed in an attractive way making it a pleasant place to walk around.
"Vth Region of Chile"
If you are going to visit Viña del Mar then you should definitely take in some of the other coastal towns nearby such as:
Valparaiso - Historical port city with UNESCO world heritage status;
ConCon - Excellent seafood restaurants in the centre of ConCon and in Higuerillas;
Reñaca - Beautiful beach with beautiful people and hip nightlife.
VIÑA DEL MAR
by Luis_Alberto
"Southern California??, I dont think so!, but.."
Viña is so close to "VALPO" this is the short name that most Chileans used to refer to Valparaiso. You can almost swear that you are in the same city, but.. and a big "but" that is, they are so different from one another, that I thought I was crossing the border to another country. Dont get me wrong, Valparaiso is an enchanting place in its own right, a bit run down, but I guess that is the beauty of Valpo. Now lets talk about sunny Viña, a nice old resort, growing and expanding to the north, with plenty of new beaches and suburbs, and yes, unfortunately "McDonalds" has taken an stake here too!!
