Palacio Carrasco
by filipdebont
At the corner of 4 Norte and Calle Libertad, you find a beautiful Villa, it is the Palacio Carrasco.
This Palacio Carrasco is now used as cultural centre which houses temporary exhibitions.
By the way, at the same grounds, just around the corner you find the museo archeologico Fonck, see previous tips.
Palacio Rioja

This house used to belong to another wealthy family back in the early 1900's. It is now a museum and it has a nice small cinema, where you can find mostly european movies. It's closed on Mondays.
The house has been restored, and you can see how eary chileans used to live back in those years. Quite interesting.
Viña del Mar
by skullcrusher
Viña del Mar is an upmarket resort town that's only a few minutes away from Valpo. It's the stomping grounds of wealthier Chilean and foreign types. I didn't find anything very exciting about the town beyond the fact that it's well maintained. The one exception is the Museo de Arqueologico e Historia Francisco Fonk which had some interesting displays and infomation about Rapa Nui (Easter Island) on the ground floor. The second floor had mostly stuffed animals and pinned insects ...... oh, and a few shrunken heads. There's also an original moai that they plucked from Easter Island and placed near the entrance to the museum.
When you make your retreat back to Valparaiso you can take comfort in the fact that you can easily catch the Merval train that connects the cities, or you can hop on one of the many minibuses that ride back and forth. There's even a path that runs along the coast that you could ride or bike along, assuming you have plenty of time.
From Renaca to Con Con
by IIGUANA
The "Costanera", that is, the coastal road from Renaca to Con Con has some amazing views and some quite good restaurants. It's over 10k but sometimes it's nice to get a bike and travel through it. Or maybe just walk.
Nice views, some amazing animals, ocean, ocean and more ocean.
This is Valparaiso as seen from the Roca Oceanica.
This is Playa Amarilla in Con Con. Quite a familiar beach.
A seagull and its pigeon. The seagull is Vina del Mar's mascot. You'll see seagulls everywhere.
Sea Lions past Cochoa Beach.
Higuerillas Yacht Club in Con Con
I want either one of these boats. Or maybe a smaller one. I won't complain, I promise...
Some rocks, the ocean, houses and the rock house on the right hand side.
