Tour operator recommendations for Pucon/Villarica vulcano
I will be travelling through Chile in November and will be in Pucón for 2 nights and 1 day. I will probably arrive in the evening of day 1, have one full day in Pucon on day 2 and leave in the morning of day 3.
For the day in Pucon I was thinking of a day trekking tour to Villarica vulcano. I've found several tour operators offering similar tours.
Could you recommend a tour operator you have had good experiences with?
Due to my tight schedule I won't have time to compare tour operators in Pucon, so I'd like to book the tour beforehand. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!
Re: Tour operator recommendations for Pucon/Villarica vulcano
Go see Jason at Mountainlife Adventures in Pucon. He has some of the lowest prices, is a great guide and takes much smaller groups than the other companies. We climbed Villarica and Lanin with him and were extremely satisfied with his company - very professional with a great attitude about safety while still having loads of fun. His address was but I haven't contacted him for over a year.
Travel Tips for Pucón
Ojos de Caburgua
If you are looking to calmly digest some of Pucon's magnificent breakfasts with some walking/hiking, this is a great option. The subterranian river Caburgua emerges from the earth to form a series of creeks, ponds and falls which eventually end at the lake of the same name. This place has several several hiking paths (easy to medium difficulty) with bridges connecting them. You can have a picnic here, take a bath or hunt for wild berries. There is a paking area and you pay a small fee to the guard at the little hut.
To get here from Pucon take the Ruta Internacional for about 15km (9.5 miles) and at the fork, take the paved road to the left. Drive for 10km (6 mi) more and at the signs take a left into a macadam road for about 400m (1/4 mi).
Pucon is a picturesque little town in southern Chile. It is an eleven hour drive by tour bus from Santiago. Pictured here is an example of German arquitecture in the town. Many Germans settled in Pucon and the nearby town of Villarica in the early 19th century.
There are some fine shops that sell German pastry...the real thing....and delicious...hmmmm.
Lake Villarica can be viewed at the edge of town. A better view can be seen at the nearby town of Villarica. From Villarica you can see the whole lake...it is an awesome sight...especially at sun-set.
There is a section of Pucon devoted to the tourist which consist of row after row of fine restaurants and small shops. Here I am dining at one of their fine restaurants. Tourist visit Pucon all year round with skiing in the winter months and boating and swimming in the summer months.
