Drive time / Climate

by fossettes

Hello Oh-worldly-ones!

Can anybody give me an idea of how long it would take to drive from Valparaiso to Pucón?

Also, we will be visiting in April. What type of weather should I expect in Pucón at that time.

Thanks,

Kelly Anne

Hi, Kelly Anne.
Driving from Santiago to Pucón is about 9 hours. It should be 1 or 2 hours more from Valpo. (there's about 900 Km between Valpo. and Pucón).

On April it would probably start to be rainy... as it is normally in Southern Chile specially in Winter, but it can be even in Summer. But you could also be lucky and have some sunny days.
Sometimes, the weather in that zone can be better in March than February (the month most people take vacations in Chile), but you never know.
April is already Autumn so it's going to start to be cold and rainy, but I think you can still enjoy it. If it rains, you can go to the termal springs.

Travel Tips for Pucón

Volcanic beach

by IIGUANA

There are lots of beaches around the lake Villarrica, but the most crowded, the coolest, the one where everything happens and where you'll be given free passes for clubbing, is definately the Hotel Pucon's beach. It's not really the hotel's beach, but since it's next to it, everybody knows it by this name.
One thing in particular. The sand in this beach is black. Not dark brown, but black. It's the volcano's dry lava from centuries ago. So do take shoes or sandals, 'cause it does get really hot during the summer.

Pucon Page

Pucon is one of the most beautiful towns in Chile. It is a small place, but you can tell that the demands of tourism are affecting the place. The main street is lined with small shops, restaurants and tour angencies. There is enough to do there to stay for almost a week, 3 or 4 full days will allow most folks time to see and do everything they want to. Everyone who makes it to Pucon aspires to ascend the Volcan Villarrica
