Pension Collen: Student accomodation
Newly built student accomodation that is good if you are moving to Conce on exchange. Has space for about 7 students I think, and with two bathrooms is pretty comfy compared to whats on offer in other parts of town. They can also organise lunch/dinner to be prepared daily or on request. Owners are friendly.
New, clean, closish to centre.

Alojamiento economico - O'Higgins 457: Budget accomodation...mmmhhh...
Although Concepcion has a wide and good selection of mid and upper-range hotels, it has an almost complete lack of budget accomodation (actually, there were NO budget hotels in Concepcion until 2 years ago...), I mean, under US$ 20 per person.
The only "budget" choice were the rooms -and even whole houses- rented to university students, of which there are a lot all around Concepcion, but accepting people who stayed a minimum of 1 month (starting at US$ 90/month).
That is due to the "isolation from the highway" about which I wrote before.
Nowadays, there are some budget places geared to backpackers and foreign shoestring travellers, located mainly in the university area and on the 1000-1300 blocks of O'Higgins, Freire and Maipu streets.
A particularly good and central one is the "Alojamiento economico", on O'Higgins 457, at US$ 8 per person. Fare includes a simple breakfast. It has hot water (essential all year round) and is very nice and welcoming. I checked it, despite not staying there (I have my family's home in Concepcion´s countryside)
