Wild camping at Alto Vilches: Essential: a tent

In Altos de Lircay park, there are no public use cabins -although rangers may let you use their shelters if you're a serious mountaineer- but there is a campground 800 metres uphill from the ranger's office, equipped with hot showers and other facilities, at US$ 14 per day. Good, safe and neat, although somewhat expensive.
I prefer wild camping anywhere else into the park, since the experience is far more interesting and allows for more freedom.
There are also some shelters along the path, to help unequipped trekkers to cover in winter, and levelled grounds for wild camping that feature simple tables for convenience, but nothing else.

Wild camping is great here!! Just walk until you want to set camp, find a good place and prepare to have a great night surrounded by an amazing forest, listening only to the birds, the wind on the trees, the sound of a nearby stream (there are lots of them) and the occasional snow falling over your tent. Be awakened by the sound of woodpeckers, and have breakfast with water taken from the stream, before continuing walking, or simply staying there for a longer time.
Ask the ranger for a map and detailed directions: he's happy to help trekkers and mountaineers (I also gave him GPS fixes for the main points on the main path; ask for them too)
