Cartagena's Exclusive Hotel and Spa

Tha Sofitel Santa Clara in Cartagena San Diego district is among the nicest hotels in Cartagena's Old City.

We stayed at the Sofitel between Christmas and New Years which is peak season. The rates doubled for New Years.

Unique Quality: The hotel has a fantastic pool area and wonderful courtyard where you can have breakfast in the morning and cocktails in the evening.

In addition, there is a great bar named Scirocco located in the northwest corner of the hotel that serves great drinks as the DJ plays great dance music.

Santa Teresa

One of the two 5 star hotels that have been built out of Restored convents, Santa Teresa is spectacular. I should say that I did not stay there, It is a bit expensive, but it is less than it's competitor the Santa Clara and many of my friends who have stayed in both perfer the Santa Teresa.

Unique Quality: The thing that sets the Santa Teresa apart, even more than it's location right along the wall in the old city, or the cool restores Convent thing, is the rooftop pool that looks out over the city, Spectacular.

Hotel Charleston

I paid about $90 per night for a room with one double bed.

Unique Quality: This is a beautiful hotel located in a lovely neighborhood in the old town, just inside the city wall. It has a gorgeous courtyard filled with flowers, which is where you eat breakfast. The rooms are huge and have far more character than the much-hyped, overcrowded Sofitel Santa Clara (which I also visited). There is a good-size pool on the roof--a MUST, for the view--here I am enjoying drinks up there.

More about Charleston Cartagena Hotel

To the Sea

by diditi

It`s common to see early in the morning the fishermen throw their "atarrayas" or nets all the long of the beaches of Marbella and fishing in teams.
For the fishermen visiting Cartagena, we recommend three strategic places: The Jetty of Bocagrande that looks toward Tierrabomba in The Lake; Santo Domingo to the height of the Charleston Santa Teresa hotel in the Walled Center, and Castillogrande around of the Naval Club.

- A world beyond the surface

The generosity Cartagena's natural beauty, was rewarded in all its senses including its coralline reefs, which allow exploit the diving in crystalline and deep waters, as the Rosario's Islands and Bar.
The recreational diving with its famous red flag and white diagonal line, is not difficult or dangerous since it doesn't improvise.
In the city there are diving stores as Caribbean Dive Shop, which are specialized in servicing novice tourists as well as veterans, to explore the beautiful islands and reefs near to Cartegena.
(C) Isla Portonaito, Islas del Rosario, Isla del Pirata, Baru. The stores of scuba and travel offices offer all the equipement that you will for Aprox. US$30 per person.
