Chicaque Parque Natural: Amazing quiet yet quality accommodations

I can't say enough nice things about this incredible park in the mountains 1-2 hours west of Bogotá. They have cool private little cabins for nightly rentals, but the truth is you're not exactly roughing it when you stay here. To my pleasant surprise the cabin was stocked with a fridge and minibar, and even had a hot shower -- something I wasn't expecting in this country locale. Not to mention the fireplace which the staff prepared in the evening and provided ample kindling for the night in this slightly chilly climate. The people are friendly and offer three meals a day in a warm, inviting central building called El Refugio. The food was hearty and delicious. In addition there are well-planned hikes you can take in the mountains and it's possible to ride horses. One warning though: It's about a 40-minute steep downhill hike in order to get to the accommodations through often slippery rocks and mud; it's not the kind of place where you will want lots of luggage.

Fantastic views of the mountains, springs and waterfalls, the countryside, and there are even a few farm animals and peacocks around. Because it's in the clouds you can experience different climates and weather throughout the day, sometimes cloudy and chilly, sometimes warm and sunny. The view of the stars at night is unbelievable here!
