The Dann chain is good-is my experience.

I don't know the Hotel but I can see where it is located. "Quality" of location depend of course on what you are looking for from your stay. The Hotel is in "El Laguito" one of the modern high-scale neighbourhoods with high-rise condos and luxury hotels overlooking the ocean. If you are looking for a hotel at the beach, El Laguito (along with Bocagrande) is ok and location-wise this Hotel will likely satisfy you. However you'll need to take a taxi (~15-20 minutes) any time you want to go to the Historical City Center.
By contrast, many tourists (and I was one of those) prefer to stay in the Historical City Center, where all Cartagena's top sights are located but where there is no beach. In this case, in the event you want to spend some time at the beach, you will have to do the inverse route and take a taxi to get you to Bocagrande or El Laguito.

I would say "many tourists (and I am one of them) want to stay in the Bocagrande area".

I stayed there last march. Service was good, location is good, reasonable price. I have no complains.

Thanks for everyones help....very excited about my upcoming trip. What part of cartagena is best for the night life? We want to see sites, relax by the beach at times....but every night we would like to gout and enjoy the nightlife. Knowing this...what part of cartagena can you reccomend.....and can you reccomend any specific hotel in that area.

At time of my visit in May 2008, few bars and clubs were located around Plaza de las Coches in the Old City and Avenida del Arsenal in Getsemanà (right outside the Old City). You can walk from one of this area to the other. The crowd was mixed with local and tourists.
You may want to stay either in the Old City (the neighbors of "Centro" or "San Diego") or in the modern neighbors on the beach "Bocagrande" or "El Laguito". After all those two areas are not far apart and you can easily get from one area to the other (in the day I went from Centro to Bocagrande walking) every time you want.
If you plan to spend time at the beach every day, you may want to get an hotel in Bocagrande or El Laguito. As alternative, get an hotel with a nice pool in the Old City.
