Hotel Casa de Nelly: Hotel Casa de Nelly - paradise for backpackers
I just came from San Agustin, Colombia! I was there 3times and I can honestly say that this is one of my favourite places in Colombia. Maybe because of my stay in La Casa de Nelly, which is
one of the nicest hostels in Colombia!
I came to San Agustin and fall in love with this hotel. The botanical garden around the house is simply magical and all the rooms are big, clean and very originally decorated. Specially the cabanas (huts) are amazing! They have HOT showers 24/h and a restaurant where Julio can make you a dinner from heaven - he even makes homemade bread, marmalade, yoghurt, granola...and you ahve to try their organic coffee :)
I can honestly say that for us this was the nicest hostel in whole Colombia. The accommodation is cheap (private rooms, 15-20.000 COP – 7,5 to 10$).
Julio is very useful with the information’s about San Agustin and he can arrange you a tour with a jeep or horses as well. We did both and were very content with everything. I really hope I will have a chance to return to this unique paradise one day.
RECOMMENDED!!!!!
Unique Quality: tropical garden, lots of animals, hot showers, friendly staff, delicious food and hammocks!!!!! amazing place!!!!

El Maco: Finca Ecológica
Ecological finca El Maco is a lovely place to stay, a unique combination of farm and hotel. Located outside the village towards the Parque Arqueológico, it is created for those budget travellers who want to enjoy the countryside tranquility. Creative lodging choices adds to your adventure in this mysterious world. They offer dormitory rooms and private en suite rooms in the chalet. I prefer my own room so I was staying in the chalet. It was quite big and had a hammock in front offering a beautiful view. I payed 25.000 COP.
Unique Quality: Step by step, the Swiss owner René created this wonderful ecological finca El Maco with unique rooms, very different from usual hostels/hotels. He has also introduced organic farming methods and can provide the guests with tasty fruits, vegetables, yogurt and 'Swiss cheese'. There is a guest kitchen where you can prepare your own meals.
The sociable reception/restaurant area serves delicious, healthy meals using organic produce from the farm and there is beer and water on sale at the reception. Guests can drink fresh coffee for free. There is laundry service, internet access and book exchange, and René (who speaks Spanish, English, German and Italian) is always prepared to help with the information and reservations. Besides, they offer jeep tours, horse riding, river rafting and medicinal and therapeutic massage.
Finca El Maco is a friendly and comfortable place to stay and enjoy the peace and quiet of this beautiful area.

Hostel Colonial
There are beautiful places to stay in San Agustin . Most of them are out of the village and you will have to take a taxi. If you are too tired, though, and you are going to stay for just one night, then an easy solution is hostel Colonial. The hostel is central and is a good value 8.5$ a room. There is also a restaurant in the premises, which was ok. The service is good, and the staff is very friendly. A fish or meat meal costs about 7$ with 2 fresh fruit juices! The hot water has some difficulty getting hot and it is a little noisy but it is an agreeable, airy hostel. It is very near the bus station on the main street, so you won't have to walk a lot.

Finca El Cielo: Great Location in San Agustin, Huila, Colombia
We have been at this beautiful place last January and I am sure we will go back one day. In the middle of the archelogocial sites there is a hostal in bamboo, with very comfortable rooms and great view over the Andes, a swimming pond, and very friendly people. I can only recommend to all of you if you are travelling to San Agustin. We stayed here 5 days which was much too short!
Unique Quality: Great views, swimming pond, own horses, tours, great nature, parking outside

Finca Ecologica El Maco: delicious breakfasts!
It's a tough climb up the hill, but worth it. And once you've done it a couple of times, it really doesn't seem so bad!
El Maco is a special place - the variety of rooms sleep 1-4 people, 2 people and there's a 'dorm' that sleeps 6. However the high thatched roof makes it seem airy. Hot water is always on tap in the showers.
It's an easy walk (downhill!) back to the town, and it's on the way to the archeological park too.
Dorm bed costs 14,000 COL a night.
Unique Quality: Excellent breakfast - museli, yoghurt, homemade bread and jam, and good food for supper (if you order before 7pm) if you don't want to cook for yourself.
Get them to book you a horse trip with Pacho to the main statue sites (see under Things to Do Tips).

Casa de Nelly
Casa de Nelly is a lovely and quiet place situated about 1 km from San Agustin. There are rooms in the big house and a few cabañas in the lush and beautiful garden. I had a room with a big window facing the garden. The bathroom was just outside my room and no one was sharing it at the moment. The first two days I had very cold showers until I the third day realised I hadn’t turned the knob for hot water enough and I got a shower with lots of warm water. The bed lamp in the room did not work and the lamp in the roof did not give enough light for reading, so for that I used my torch.
The living room in the house is a nice place to sit in in the evenings to talk to other people or read a book. There is a menu so you can have dinner if you want. I tried the Spaghetti Bolognese and the Spanish Tortilla and they were both very good. In the mornings I had breakfast in the garden, which was a very nice surrounding for the first meal of the day.
There is a washing machine were you can do your laundry. I had very little and therefore only paid 1000 pesos. There was a lot of rain and humid while I was in San Agustin, so even if the cloths were hanging under roof the whole day they were still soaking wet in the evening. I hang them in the room during the night, but they were not dry jet in the morning.
For the room I paid 16 000 pesos per night. For the spaghetti, two tortillas, two breakfasts and four beer I paid 36 000 pesos.

Hotel Restaurante Los Idolos: Excellent Fruit Juice
A cross restaurant and hotel run by a young couple, with a newborn baby (at the time of my visit just a month or two old). Worth noting, is that the natural juices that they make are some of the best to be found anywhere in Colombia! Mmmm....so good. Hot water, TV.
Spanish only, no English spoken.
Single w/o bath : 10,000pesos
