Spent 5 weeks doing archaeology in Julcuy, Manabi, Ecuador in the parque nacional Machalilla travelling through such towns as Jipijapa, Puerto Lopez (spent many a nights there), Manta, Montecristi (panama hats) Tasagua, and many others. I have a really good map of the Manabi province I purchased at the military complex in Quito I can scan or photograph. Theme: Other

Hostal Chonderleg (***) in Cuenca Princes in 2001: Single: US$ 16 Double: US$ 23 Suite : US$ 30 Continental Breakfast included Visa, Mastercard and Diners credit cards are accepted.
An attractive hotel in a refurbished older building with a nice patio and a decent restaurant. Ask for a suite is most expensive but is a good deal, for a two floor room with a nice bathroom (and plenty of HOT water), TV, telephone, radio and a good view of the catedral over ceilings around. No picture - Pas de photo by Maillekeul The stay was nice, as the rooms and the hotel are really clean. We managed to pay only 5 USD per person, but it looks like it should have been more expensive (10 USD). And if it's confirmed, it's not worth going there, Banos is full of cheap hotels !!

We recommend the Hotel Sebastian, located just on the outskirts of Mariscal Sucre. It's a bit pricey, but it's truly elegant in every manner and you'll spend a lot less than at the Hotel Colon or one of the other megahotels.

The Magic Bean is a centrally located hotel in the middle of Mariscal Sucre. It is a center of activity for the backpacking crowd and the food and coffee is great in the restaraunt. It is, however, a bit overpriced for the accomodations. One day the water in the shower went ice-cold. When I asked about it downstairs, I just got the shoulder shrug. In addition, I'm quite certain, although I can't prove it, that I had $80 taken from my wallet in my private room one night. The night watchman was the only person that had access to my room at the time. Later in the trip, we heard similar stories from others who had stayed there. Keep in mind, however, that this was in 2001 and this guy may be long gone after all the complaints that they got.

These folks are wonderful hosts that I fully recommend to stay with if you choose to study Spanish at the Linguatec spanish school in Quito. I would request. Aida's cooking is divine and there house is really comfortable. You can also experience "Houdini" and some accordian music if you stay here :)

Rumipamba de las Rosas, Salcedo by DanielF Our aim was to avoid international hotel chains like the pest. It was not always possible, but, occasionally, we had the chance to stay in old haciendas that have been reconverted for tourism.
Any location in the imposing Equatorian nature would have been enough to keep our spirits satisfied, but the good taste in the decoration of the roomy interiors and the calm of the rustic gardens that boasted all the haciendas where we stayed were also perfect to provide our bodies a well deserved rest... and pleasure. sleeping all together by filipdebont It was great to sleep in those tents; it was a bit as sleeping outside but without the naughty insects. How wonderful it was to wake up in these conditions, by the first light and with the sound of an awaking rainforest. And after a slowly wake up, the day started with a swim in the river, as there was no running water to take a shower. There was only one negative point: the sound of the zippers of the tent from people who needed to go to toilet in the middle of the night. And of course as the first went to the toilet, the rest followed, it was kind of a concert of opening and closing zippers. And what to say of all the strong torch lights that lighted my tent while the owners were searching for the path in order to find the toilet block (I did sleep in a corner tent, so they all passed my tent on the road to the toilet). a great experience by filipdebont Hot spots Camp was our base camp during our three day stay in the Reserva de produccion Faunistica Cuyabeno. It was great to stay so deeply in the Rainforest. Especially the sounds at night were great. We did sleep on kind of open verandas. Each one had a mosquito net tent with a mattress in it. There were even cushions, and linen, what a luxury, so deep in the jungle. Theme: OtherDirections: deep in the jungle

View from the restaurant by filipdebont A good hotel, in the centre of the old city. So like this it is excellent to visit the old part of the city. And even if you want to visit the new part of the city, the trolleybuses are just outside the hotel.
It is a 4 Star hotel. There was a restaurant at the top floor with a great view over Plaza Santo Domingo (and of course with good food) Theme: HotelAddress: Bolivar 220 and GuayaquilPhone: 593 2 2950 590Directions: Corner of Plaza Santo DomingoWebsite: www.realaudiencia.com Other Contact: (mail) : realaudi@hoy.net
