Our ship stopped in Manta, Ecuador overnight. We decided to take one of the tours sold on the ship. The most memorable was a stop at a factory that makes use of an indigenous nut(which they refer to as South American ivory) They carve many different animals from this nut, but the biggest item (in volume) is buttons!

according to some ecuadorians i met, the most beautiful girls in the country are from manta. i didn't get a chance to visit, but i'm sure it's worth the trip. also i think there aren't too many tourists. have fun

oh so you're going to go for the women.. I stayed their one night so I didn't see much of it at all, we walked by a smelly harbour, but had a nice chinese... I went that way on the way from Puerto Lopez back to Quito for our flight home.. Puerto Lopez was gorgeous, I went whale watching! the hostel I stayed in had a pool which we could use even though we were in the lowest paying rooms - cool! but Manta..

I ve been in Manta for 2 weeks. Whoever says it s a good city has not been anywhere.
Noisiest traffic on earth. Very unsafe and very dirty (garbagge deposited on streets, stinking when you walk by). Supermkts that are quite limited in variety.Boring place. No cultural life. Etc etc
