Great experience in Mandala!
I was staying here with my parents. The hostel is in Puerto Lopez, right on the beach. There's a restaurant, play room, and reading room. Around this place are the cabins. Everything is made of wood in a very special way. It's all art actually. Here you can easily stay for a few nights chilling at the beach cabins in wich you can put your hammock (available at the hotel), walking around in the village, going on tours (Isla de Plata or Salango Island), going to other beaches like Frailes or just hanging around in the hotel playing games and reading a book. The food here is very good as well! You should try the ceviche and the pina colada. Also the breakfast with freshly baked bread is delicious. The couple that own the place is very nice and helpfull and create a great atmosphere.
If you are looking for a place to stay in Puerto Lopez I would defenitely recommend this one!
Best place to stay in Puerto Lopez
The Mandala is without doubt the best place to stay in Puerto Lopez. The owners are Maya from Swizerland and Aurelio from Italy. It is a unique place with lots of details worked out by Aurelio. Nice tropical garden and excellent food. Lots of games and books available. Visited by people from all over the world. You only have to cross a dusty road to reach the long beach. The staff of Mandala is although the only one to offer hammocks at the beach.
Great place to stay
Hosteria Manadala is a little oasis just a 5 minute walk outside of Puerto Lopez. You have the option of staying in a room or a cabin nestled in a beautiful green garden. The main building has a big veranda around it where you can eat a delicious meal, play one of their many board games, or just talk. Everyone who works at Mandala is very friendly and helpful. They will even arrange a tour of Isla de la Plata, Machalilla National Park, or a whale watching tour for you.
Unique Quality: Mandala is very clean, well taken care of, has beautiful artistic details in every corner, a music room, a tv area, a huge collection of baord games and magazines, and it's right on the beach. We could hear the waves from our cabin! The food is expensive for most people who work in Ecuador but everything was delicious. There is always the option of walking to a restaurant in Puerto Lopez to eat which we did a few times for lunch. When we were there we met tourists from Guayaquil, the U.S., Holland, and Argentina... a nice local and international mix. I highly recommend it and hope we go again in the future!
