Maquipucuna Lodge: Ecolodge working for good
This ecolodge is owned by the Maquipucuna Foundation, an organization dedicated to developing sustainable agriculture and tourism in Ecuador. As a guest, you have a variety of lodging options, mostly in a large jungle lodge with private baths and hot running water. The meals are included in the price, and they are delicious. Home-made meals representing (usually) real Ecuadoran cuisine, with the produce coming largely from their organic farm (a prototype as a demonstration for farmers in Ecuador). Overall it is a very good place to visit, off the usual tourist tract.
Unique Quality: The fact that you are a part of the foundation, and your money is going towards developing a sustainable environment in Ecuador is worth the experience.
One of the greatest things about the lodge is all the activities. There are miles of jungle hiking, wandering up and down the slopes of the foothills of the Andes. Perhaps you'd like to join in on the morning bird-watching hikes to see the plethora of native avian fauna, or visiting the organic, shade-grown coffee farm. There is a lot to keep you occupied in Maquipucuna, I suggest you check it out.
