 | | | | Hotel Alameda Real/Grand Mercure: Upscale hotel, reasonable price | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Our hotel, included in our Galapagos tour package, was the Hotel Alameda Real in Quito's new town. This hotel is fairly soulless and decorated in a late-1970s style, but the rooms are very comfortable, clean, and spacious. We had a suite, with one bedroom and a small sitting room, plus a well-equipped bathroom. I think the price was around $100 a night, which for this quality of hotel seemed quite reasonable. Since I stayed there, I believe that the management of this hotel has changed, and it is now known as the Grand Mercure. While this hotel was very satisfactory and comfortable, there are much cheaper options available in Quito. We noticed plenty of places for less than $25 a night. This hostel is really nice. I stayed here 4 times in my 3 months in Ecuador, as Quito was a stopover on my trips around the country. The rooms are basic, but clean and ok. Toilet and showers are located on the hallways, but there are 3 or 4 bathrooms, and I never experienced waiting time. They have hot water most of the time. There is a hallway with different kind of literature left behind by travelers, and there is a notice board with messages. There are also a kitchen and a TV-room, as well as a garden/courtyard, where you can hang out with fellow travelers. The front door is locked, but you can ring the bell day and night and let will let you in.
The staff is friendly and as we got to know each other they always reserved the same room for me, and even wanted to make a guy swap room, when I showed up unexpected. When I stayed there in year 2000 the price pr. person was $4. This was the price pr. person, no matter whether you stayed in a single, double or trible room. | | | | Ambassador Hotel, Quito: Economical, yet cozy, accomodation in Quito | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Don't let the name fool you, it sounds like a big, international hotel. But, this place is just a simple, yet comfortable, Ecuadoran hotel. It's only a few blocks away from Amazonas Avenue. They take Amex, Diners Club, Mastercard and Visa.
Friendly staff, great location, decent breakfasts. All for very little cash. And speaking of unique qualities, the rooms have some of the most bizarre paintings you've seen. Almost disturbing in some ways. The one in our room looked like a paint-by-numbers version of Munch's "The Scream" There is a restaurant on-site, and the food is good if unremarkable. Breakfast is a good deal and of good quality. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Av. 9 de Octubre at Av. ColónPhone: 02/256-1777
