Yellow Rooms and Blue Baths...
What a wonderful little place!! Centrally located near the US embassy, a majority of their fifteen rooms are yellow (mine included,) my own had a blue bathroom (huge and with lovely tiles.) Breakfast daily is included in the price of the room. They deliver drinks to your door any time of day. Unfortunately they dont have room service, even though their website says differently. I would highly recommend staying here to any single female traveling alone. I felt very safe and protected. The staff was even so kind as to nightly go to each room and turn on a light above the door (making it much easier to come "home" after a night on the town.)
The English speaking staff and owner were both a great help with my limited Spanish. They were kind enough to order me taxis, give me directions, and generally wish me well as I left for each days outing.
Unique Quality: Although there isnt a pool in this wonderful location, they do have an outstanding courtyard for you to take your afternoon nap.

Good Building, Great Location, Iffy Staff
This hotel, which apparently is the old British Embassy, is in a nice refurbished house in a great part of the city (right near El Ejido Park and Mariscal Sucre). However, the staff was not very friendly, and reneged on their claim that breakfast was included in their fare (even though they said it was on the phone, and advertise online and in guidebooks that it is).
