South American's Worst Hotel

This hotel is the worst in South America. The staff is rude, arrogant and cheated us. We were mis-charged and discovered the mistake after we'd checked out. We were back within the hour and the staff refused to correct the error. They actually laughed in our faces. The lobby is beautiful but inside the hotel rooms are shabby. Some of the hotel appears to be remodeled, other parts are not. Whether or not you get a newly redone room does not appear to be related to how much you pay. It seems to be related to how the front desk staff size you up.

Unique Quality: Great breakfast with a wonderful view. But not worth the shabby rooms. This place needs a lightbulb salesman to come by and take a big order. There is a very cheesy disco on the premises, too. You can feel the vibrations from the music well into the morning hours. Not a good place to go with children.

Great Value

I highly recommend this place, especially if you have kids because there is so much for them to do and it's in a nice, clean and safe part of town with a SPECTACULAR view.

Unique Quality: This place has an incredible view, nice pool and spa, and fairly reliable wireless internet access.

Hotel Rio Amazonas and Hotel Quito
Hotel Rio-we paid $40 a night. Hotel Quito we paid $45 a night that included a welcome drink (rum & coke only) and breakfast buffet. Buffet was good, do not recommend it for lunch or dinner. Hotel Rio is right amongst the bars and discos. Hotel Quito has spectacular views from the rooms. The garden and pool area are very nice also.

Quito-Hotel Embassy,
Ibarra-what ever one is good,
Riobamba-Hotel El Cisne,
Santo Domingo-Hotel Zaracay(the nicest),
Otavalo-Ali Shungu
I will add more when I return in June.
These are a little high but worth it.

Treat Yourself at Hotel Quito

by ddbleu about Hotel Quito

We stayed two nights before going to the Galapagos and one night after. It was part of a package deal with GAP Tours and much nicer than we expected. Free internet in the business center on 3 computers, a fabulous buffet breakfast (included), and beautiful pool which we didn't have time to use. We paid US $70 for a room with two double beds. The breakfast is amazing, anything you could want in a very large buffet with hot and cold food, breads, the liquid yogurt I saw everywhere in Ecuador and Peru.

by DaveOrlando

My favorite was Hosteria La Cienega (courtyard pictured here), which is a 17th century hacienda located off the Pan-american highway near Lasso that has a great view of the Cotopaxi volcano. The room rates here are around $50 per night. We stayed Hacienda Guachala in Cayambe as well, a less expensive but very quaint place. These are places to go to get off the beaten path -- televisions and telephones are hard to find but there are plenty of fireplaces. In Quito, we stayed at the Hotel Quito on the hill. They had good service (hot breakfast buffet included), and I believe this hotel was around $55 per night. In Banos, we stayed at Monte Selva, a secluded spot at the base of a mountain -- a relaxing way to end the trip.

Where to stay while in Quito

by kayakcraig about Hotel Sierra Nevada

Freddy Ramirez is a very accomodating owner of this well-known climber and kayaker friendly hotel in the Mariscal district of Quito. Hotel Sierra Nevada is very accomodating of the weary traveler and has nice beds, great climbing and trekking services and helps out the gringo with all needs. From luggage storage to WiFi internet to travel arrangements, the Hotel Sierra Nevada is a travelers friend. Great old-town Quito location, safe location and friendly staff. Helpfull with arranging trips to Galapagoes or into the Oriente.

Excellent hotel in Quito

by BE001903 about Hotel Cafe Cultura

Our stay in cafe cultura was a very pleasant one. The staff is extremely helpful. The rooms are original and clean. There is also a very good restaurant in the hotel.
We also made use of their bagage storage and safes while we where at other locations in Ecuador.
If you want to they can also arrange tours, transport etc. as they did for us.
Excellent service

Where is this hotel located? Are there shops nearby and restaurants? Do they have rooms with queen beds?

RE: Hotel Quito

Check out www.tripadvisor.com. I think that this is the place I stayed in some years ago, in which case it's in a quiet area of town. (Not that anywhere in Quito is exactly noisy!)

Hotel Quito is located at Av. Gonzalez Suarez. It´s a very nice hotel and they do have queen beds. There are a bunch of restaurants near by and some shops. But it is close to everything.
