Good Place in the Historic Center

If you want a reasonably priced, clean hotel in the Centro Historico, the Real Audiencia is a good choice. Rooms are unspectacular, but clean and comfortable for those not in need of too many creature comforts. The location is great, on the Plaza Santo Domingo. Perfect if you want to stroll the beautiful old town area...just be sure you don't do it past 10-ish, when the city's security personnel and police seem to disappear from the streets.

Unique Quality: Don't miss the included breakfast, served on the top floor restaurant. The breakfast itself is unexciting(but good enough), but the view over Plaza Santo domingo is a great way to start the day.

Great Value - Fantastic Service

I reserved a room via internet (in Spanish) without having to give out a credit card number. I was promised a driver at the Quito airport - at no charge. Unfortunately, a tropical storm in Houston made me miss my connection. I called the hotel from the Houston airport to apologize, and cancel the driver as well as my first night. "Do not worry Señor," I was told, "No se preocupa."

I finally arrived at the hotel at 9:00 the following morning, via Guayaquil. I was greeted with kindness and attention. I was offered a different room if the one available so early wasn't quite right (and the room was perfectly fine).

Although this is an inexpensive hotel, the concierge service is equal to any, as good as at the prestigious Shangri-La chain for instance.

Unique Quality: My room was on the third floor (no elevator) with a fine view of the Panecillo. The street was a bit noisy until 11 p.m. The hotel has a panoramic restaurant with a beautiful view of the Plaza de San Domingo, where I had a fine vegetarian fettucine in a spinach sauce seasoned with ginger for less than $5.

There are two computers available for patrons who wish to check their email. Breakfast is included. All this for $28 a night!

In the heart of the old city

A good hotel, in the centre of the old city. So like this it is excellent to visit the old part of the city.
And even if you want to visit the new part of the city, the trolleybuses are just outside the hotel.

Unique Quality: It is a 4 Star hotel.

Great food - Great view

by filipdebont about Panoramico

The restaurant was on the top floor (third floor - I think) of Hotel Real Audiencia.

There was a great variety on international dishes (and a few local dishes).

The food was great and plenty. Prices were reasonable.

Just one thing, pay attention, as they make your bill, they always add another 21% on taxes. So like this your bill becomes a lot bigger then what you have counted on the menu card. And this happened in every restaurant we visited during our roundtrip.

There was a splendid panoramic view over Plaza Santo Domingo. As an entry I had Avocado witch chicken (yummy) and my main course was a steak with mushrooms (deliscious)

Plaza and Iglesia de Santo Domingo

by calcaf38

This is one of the main squares in the historic district of Quito. Because it is a stop of the trole (trolley), it is somewhat noisy - rather than lively. The architecture all around the square is very attractive, half white, and half peach. The Church of Santo Domingo is very distinctive, and it is pleasantly illuminated at night. However, I have read that the Plaza is not so safe at night. The best spot to enjoy the sight might therefore be the restaurant of the Hotel Real Audiencia (see accommodation tip).

To the right of the church is a chunky Arco. A short downhill walk from the arco (but not going through the arco) will get you to the bus station.

Recommendation lodging Quito?

by lambje

Hi, Can anyone recommend a safe and convenient accommodation in Quito? We thought it would be nicer to stay in the Old town (Lonely Planet writes it's relatively safe now, safer than Mariscal district), as this is closer to the bus terminal. We are looking for a safe and comfortable place that costs about $ 45 maximum or less (including tax and breakfast). We're considering the following options:

Hotel Internacional Plaza de Teatro - Anyone ever stayed here?
Hotel Cathedral Internacional
Hotel Hotel Viena Internacional
Hotel San Francisco de Quito
Hotel Real Audiencia
Hotel Auca Continental

Many thanks!
