Self Catering: Accommodation

Saunders Island is owned by Tony and David Pole-Evans and accommodation is arranged through them. What you get is very basic but a real back to nature experience.

Stone Cottage where I stayed is a 19th century shepherd's hut with electricity, TV, Radio, Central heating and great views over Sealer Cove.

If you want real adventure try staying at The Neck, an isolated hut some 16 km from the settlement. This is REALLY basic, there is a stove to cook on but you must bring your own food or purchase it from the settlement. Yes that is the hut in the photo.

From the Neck you are within strolling distance of four different species of Penguins (King, Rockhopper, Magellanic and Gentoo) plus albatross, cormorants and maybe an elephant seal or sea lion or two!

Because of it's isolation, The Neck is not open during the winter months.
