Family Trip: Sleepin International Brickdam

by trinifordgirl

Location:on approaching the hotel i was a bit worried...does not look like a place i would "normally" stay..not fancy looking!

BUTTTTTTT...... Excellent! I made the right choice!

NEW CLEANNNNN average rooms. Safe hotel. Friendly staff (expect for the server at breakfast...lol...i heard she is the talk of all the visitors...) Pool area ok. Bar is nice.

Hot and cold water, computer access from lobby also.

Great place to stay. Will come again.

In the heart of the city, travelling is easy and cheap from the airport to city approx $20USD for the entire cab. For hotel to most resturants and main shopping streets between $3USD-$4USD.

Free Interent in rooms.

Church view hotel: WORST hotel in Guyana!!

by SurfGuyana

Had to stay in Berbice for 3 nights recently. I live many miles away and was traveling with friends. We made a choice based on web available info and BOY did we bottom out!
So as to prevent others from having this horrible experience, there are other places nicer AND cheaper within a block!
The good: breakfast was good, reasonably priced, made to order. The waitress/server was the same as the cook (Indra). Very friendly.
Price was average for a hotel in the area, about G$8000/night or $40 US. Room had a window A/C unit (from the 1960's).
The bad: the thick carpet of mold and dust on the A/C unit prevented it from cooling the room until I took it off and scrubbed it. It hadn't been cleaned in at least a year. They aren't very familiar with a/c here, so they might not know it HAD a filter.
Toilet area was filthy. You could change the color of the tank by running your finger across it.
Room was just larger than a prison cell and the TV had to be precariously perched on top of the cube refrigerator which hardly worked.
Decorated in cheap, plastic, yard sale and dollar store fixtures.
Carpet was absolutely disgusting, and looked like an army issue wool blanket!
I could go on and on about the dirt and filth but my friends room next door had roaches camped out in their non-working refrigerator. I think that sums it up.
I can forgive small rooms and bare light bulb furnishings, but filth is something I'm not accustomed to paying for.
On top of all this, we had a small problem that need to be ironed out by the staff. The daytime desk clerk is rude, obnoxious AND arrogant! I know now, after several years in this country, that customer service is almost unheard of, but this guy is a true bottom dweller. Certainly not an impressive representative of his hotel. Fortunately, several of the women that work there did follow his lead.
There is a nicer place almost next door! It's actually two doors away, but you get the idea. Many friends stayed there instead and are laughing like crazy at our experience.
EVERYONE who stayed at the other place, The Parkway Hotel (592-333-3928) had a great time, no complaints. They said their rooms were clean, decent sized and cheaper. A/C is available there if you want (for an additional cost - very typical in this country) There are other places nearby also. Just do a google search. OR read reviews from here or elsewhere.
If staying in the Lethem area, try the Takatu Inn. Very friendly and clean. Owners are friendly and accommodating.

it's directly across the street from a three story Muslim Masjid (house of prayer/ worship)
At lunch time they have a loudspeaker where they call everyone in the area to come for prayer/service. About as loud as those bells that Catholic churches use to announce Mass time. The service is broadcast up and down the street for all to hear.
Unfortunately, the other time of day for this is at 5:00 a.m.!! Unfortunate for those who were sleeping. And for those staying in a hotel right across the street.

If the desk clerk had been respectful or helpful, it would have made a lot of difference. Unfortunately, he chose to exemplify 3rd world mentality.

If you have one that can beat this one, please post it!

Cara Lodge: True Hospitality

by aahunt

In 2009, the U.S Air Force came to Guyana to complete an humanitarian mission. One of the hotels that housed units from all over the US was the Cara Loge. This was an amazing experience. THe hotel staff and manager treated us extemely well and the hotel was terrific. I highly reccomend this hotel. The hospitality was beyond great. Thank you for the great memories.

Courtyard was beautiful. Food service was excellent

Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel: Great Hotel In Georgetown

by jamesdalphonse

During December of 2007, we stayed for over one week at the Le Meridien Pegasus hotel in Georgetown, Guyana. The hotel is a beautiful place tucked away on the edge of Georgetown. It is located right on the seawall of Guyana. The beach is not able to be used, due to Guyana being below sea level. The sea is all murky and muddy in this area.
The rooms are very clean, never did we have any problems with running water. The housekeeping staff was very good in keeping overstocked with bottled water. Although, I did consumer tap water in Georgetown, I did not have any problems with it.
There is a huge swimming pool at this hotel, which makes it very relaxing laying out during the afternoon under the hot South American sun. At the far end of the pool is the main hotel bar. The bar is kept open until at least midnight, usually later.
Food service at this hotel is great, but a little on the pricey side. There is a restaurant that has a breakfast buffet near the front desk, very good. Across from the front desk is another very high-priced restaurant. The main and best restaurant is the outdoor one, located all around the pool area. Here the food is very good, and you are served by very friendly waiters.

Le Meridien Pegasus is right in the city of Georgetown. About five blocks up the street is the Palm Court Restaurant. The Palm Court stays open until 3:00 am every night, and opens at 11:00 am every day, except Sunday, when they open up at 4:00 pm. The food at this restaurant is very reasonably priced and outstanding. There is a full-service bar at this location that also serves until 3:00 am. I highly recommend this place.
All around Georgetown there are numerous places to eat at. From very fine pastry shops to Chinese restaurants all over. Dinner at these Chinese restaurants is very feasible for about $US10 for two people, including beverage.

Le Meridien Guyana Pegasus, Georgetown: A happening place.

by Aafia

After 10 days in the remote Pakaraimas hiking and camping, this hotel was like an oasis for us. We arrived dirty and dusty from the interior, yet we were welcomed like royalty with cold punch and smiles. The hotel is located far enough away from the chaos of downtown Georgetown and on the ocean so we could enjoy the pleasant breeze in the lobby and in our ocean-view room.
Our room was quite satisfactory for us, but in the context of a 5 star hotel the rooms are ready for an overhaul.
The atmosphere at the hotel is very comfortable. The restaurants serve excellent food. The pool and bar area is a great place for socializing and some evenings there's a band and dancing. We were there on Valentine's Day and we ate and danced to the rhythm of a steel drum band.
There is a gift shop, business center, hair dresser, small gym and tennis courts.
The hotel also hosts several local Rotary Clubs for those who like to make up their meetings while they're away.

Staff was always pleasant and helpful.
Excellent restaurants and breakfast buffet.
Fun pool and bar.
Open breezy lobby leading to lounging areas and pool.
Felt very secure.
It just seemed to be a happening place.

Sleepin Hotel, Brickdam Road: Haven in the heart of town

by titothedog

Best little hotel I've stayed at in Guyana. Sister hotel of Sleepin Guest House located in Church Street but has its own sweet ultra modern identity.

Ultra clean, cable tv, air conditioned, hot and cold showers, fridge and mirowave for your convenience. Also your own private balconey depending on the type of room you request. Right in the heart of town yet so quiet and peaceful...added plus walking distance to stores, restaurants and the Stabroek Market. Helpful and friendly staff...it was really an enjoyable experience...a true home away from home.

Tropicana - Fine brazilian Cuisine and Hotel: Guyana's Best cheap hotel in 2006

by Andrea_Adams

I've been reading what people wrote about Tropicana and I have to say that these are old information. Tropicana was restored on 2006 and it looks amazing. It is all decorated with Amerindian crafts, they added more bathrooms in the rooms, the rooms are VERY clean and they have security 24/7.

Very nice bilingual staff and a GREAT restaurant... which is known now to be the best latin restaurant of the country. I could sit there all day and eat till I fall. ahha... If you talk to the manager they can arrange many things for your room with no additional cost, such as tv and other necessary stuff.

Le Chalet Country Club: Georgetowns Forgotten Hotel

by Violapreacher

A great place to stay. Comfortable rooms. Security. (80 year old man with a bat). Guarding the gated entrance. Rooms are air conditioned, hot rain water for shower, toilets, and tv. Lenard Wharton takes great care of his guests. Personally cooked food in the private cafe.

Sleepin Guest House: Sleepin Guest House

by LastMango

$7500G (approx $35US) for a queen size bed, tv, mini fridge, shower

room was spotless clean

however, the room is very small for 2 people with luggage

- 5 minute walk to Bourda Market

Baganara Island Resort: Beautiful Baganara Island

by LastMango

This is a resort with a beautiful location and a lot of potential. The main building houses the kitchen, bar, a huge lounge area and some rooms on the second floor. However, the rooms in the newer building are much nicer. Our room in the new building was fairly large, had a queen size bed and the room was spotless. Unfortunately, the ceiling fan was in need of repair so we only had an oscillating fan for cooling and that just didn't help....it was long night. What was very surprising was the meals. Dinner was spaghetti and meatballs....no choice and no appetizers, salad or bread. Ice cream for dessert. We had to ask for coffee and it was instant. Breakfast was bread (not toast), wieners in a very tasty sauce and scambled eggs....we opted for tea this time. Lunch was more in line with what we expected. Cook-up, fish and a small salad. Pineapple for dessert. Oh, yes, and a fantastic hot sauce. The quality of the food was excellent but the presentation was lacking. The staff were all too comfortable using the guest facilities....thankfully, it was low season and only a handful of guests on site.

- cleanliness
- location
- view
- peace & quiet
