HOTEL CARTAGENA DE INDIAS: ROOFTOP POOL IN THE CENTER OF CARTAGENA

I came across this hotel by chance in the Historical District when I noticed cannon inside a hotel lobby. The cannon was from the 17th or 18th century and had been discovered when the Vélez Danies Building was being converted into this great looking hotel. The biggest selling point of the hotel is the rooftop pool overlooking the old city. Having said that, it’s also a source of complaints when they host loud parties up here. You may want to check, especially at these prices, that there are no parties scheduled for your stay.

The rooms are all unique and are beautiful. Some do not have a bathtub, others a deep Jacuzzi. There is an absence of practical furniture, like drawers, but they are all nicely decorated.

The roof is the real beauty. You have to go through the tasteful lobby and water wall to go up. On the top you have a dramatic pool, Jacuzzi and the Sky Bar. Go for at least a drink and maybe a swim, even if you are not staying here.

All rooms share:
* Designs by local artist Mauricio Pinto
* 32-inch LCD televisions
* Ceiling fans and climate control
* Mini bars
* Rainfall showers
* Spa toiletries
* Bose Radio and iPod speaker system
* Safe

• Sky Bar and rooftop pool
• Tropical garden
• Complimentary breakfast
• Spa treatments
• Fantastic location
• Free parking

HOTEL BELLAVISTA - CHILE: GREAT LOCATION - BASIC HOTEL

OK,

Don't get too excited. This hotel has a commanding view of Lago Llanquihue and 2 massive volcanoes. The views of the spectacular Volcano Osorno could not be any better. And that is the best it gets. This hotel is basic and has few amenities. It is more of an overnight hotel for tourist groups. A comfy and clean bed is the only luxury you will enjoy.

There seemed to be a small restaurant tucked into the back of the hotel, but I never observed anyone using it. The bar, just off the reception area, is the hub of any activity.

Rooms are clean and bright with Satellite Television and a mini-bar. There is no air-conditioning and the room can get a bit stuffy. Open the large window for a nice breeze off the lake and a better view of Osorno.

Bathrooms are basic, but do have a telephone in case you need to make a call. Ample closets have a free safe deposit box. You can also open windows in the corridors when the rooms/hotel becomes hot.

For business travellers there are 2 small meeting rooms, internet access and photocopy/fax service available. They also have an enclosed car park.

Reception has postcards and a few souvenirs. They can also arrange car hire.

Staff are friendly and the bar is staffed by someone coming over from reception. Shame it has no view or atmosphere. Breakfast is a nice buffet served in a bright room overlooking the lake.

Puerto Varas is a town for outdoor activity and exploration. This hotel is Spartan and you won't spend too much time here. It is boring. Everything you want is just outside.

The overriding feature of this hotel is it's location and of course the fantastic view. It has no great qualities. They do have a sauna (turned off). Why bother? The town and lake are virtually at your doorstep.

AWWA SUITES & SPA: AWWA RIGHT !

I love this place. In fact I stayed here twice. The great thing about this excellent hotel is that it is surrounded on 3 sides by the green heart of Buenos Aires. The Zoo, Botanical and Japanese Gardens are on your doorstep. The neighbourhood is upscale and quiet. Great restaurants, some nice bars, and several grocery stores are also a 2 minute walk. The main part of the city is a good 20 minute walk or a very short taxi ride away. The hotel itself is just perfect. Modern, clean, comfortable and all the amenities you could wish for. The staff can and will organise anything you need.

My rooms were fantastic. Lovely beds, big TV’s, wonderful bathrooms and everything to hand. I always had a great night’s sleep here. My second room, near the top, was really cool. The TV was in the middle of the room and the whole layout was awesome. The bathrooms are a real treat with a full size bathtub.

I highly recommend the Awwa Suites. I enjoyed my dips in the pool, reading a book poolside and being able to use the internet (wifi and computer) to catch –up before and after I went to Antarctica. This is a real winner.

Awwa has 59 fully furnished suites in 3 categories:
• Balcony Suites - 26 sq. mts. Small, but overlooking the parks of Buenos Aires
• Deluxe Suite - 36 sq. mts. Jusr right. Good sized and comfortable
• Executive Suite - 46 sq. mts. Mega. 2 rooms and 2 balconies

Every suite has:
• Fully-Equipped Kitchenette
• Microwave oven, coffee machine
• Minibar
• Full environmental control
• Large electronic safe
• Large satellite TV
• Wi-fi
• Full bathroom (Tub, Bidet, Hair drier)
• Breakfast included at the Nucha Restayurant next door

FACILITIES & SERVICES:
• Awwa Spa – full range of services
• Indoor pool
• Nucha Restaurant (the worlds best quiches)
• Modern gym
• Business center and conference room

on good beaches: camping mostly

in Brasil.....we mostly camped in those days, was cheap and fun, and also not getting in trouble with the wildlife.
for the rest of America Latina, accommodation was no problem, Guesthouses our prefered stay, Backpackers wheren't 'discovered' then...or not named that way, though most young travelers travelled with rucksack

or we in the obvious VW Bus..washingline included...it was realy a great expirience.

Private bathroom - Salle de bains - Baño privado

In many South American hotels, you may only share the bathroom with other customers... Ask for a private one, if you don't like sharing your privacy !!

With hot water - Avec eau chaude - Agua caliente

You never know so you'd better ask if there is hot water in your bathroom... In many south american countries, there is none, or during some hours a day...

Pousada Beco do Bispo: Best Hopsitality in Minas Gerais

I fell onto this place over a year ago when I took a bus to the wrong city in Minas Gerasi. When I got there - the host spoke perfect english - and Italian. Nitza, the owner, is one of the most charming people on earth - and her staff supports the Pousada to the point you feel like you are at home. Simply put, there is no better place to stay.

Staff, location in town, pool, and awsome breakfast - included in rate.

If you can stay with a friend....

If you can stay with a friend. Almost no one has air cinditioning in Caracas V. but you really don't need it. Its hot in the day and cool (60's) at night. Very important to have a friend guide you through the hazzards in Venazuela.

I do not remember the name of...

I do not remember the name of the hotel I stayed in while I was in Banos, but it was the best hotel out of all. It was fairly new and cost about 8 dollars a night, for each of us. It was a tall off white building.
$24 a night, U.S dollars.

The hotel was very nice and clean, almost sterile because it was so new. There were no special facilities, although breakfast was served community style in a large room with one large dinner table. This was included in the price of the hotel and the food was decent.
