Various: Other Accomodations

The following is a list of places to stay that I copied from an old tourist map. Some of this information may no longer be relevant. Plus, where I have not visited these places I can
not recommend them. If they turn out to be bad options, I’m sorry.

Hospedage:
-N.S. Asuncion: Humaitá 207 (491 497)
-Nuevo Mundo: Cero Corá 532 (448 935)

Pensiones:
-Castillo: Cruz del Chaco 959 (605 356)
-La Pension: Caballero 531 (491 867)
-Familiar: Eligio Ayala 843 (446 381)

Hosteria:
-Haus Stefanie: Av. Peron 3671 (358 446)

Residenciales:
-Jacaranda: Mcal. Lopez 458. (238 226)
-Milagros: Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion 1053. (447 394)
-5ta. Avenida: Parapiti 1697. (447 751)
-La Estancia: Caballero 1392. (448 365)
-Deluxe: Herrera 1027. (490 802)
-Atlantico: Mexico 572. (448 919)
-Cacl: Piribebuy 150. (496 930)
-Ideal: Azara 15 49. (201 333)
-Ambassador: Montevideo 111. (445 901)
-Damasco: Caballero 290. (441 248)
-Imperial: Colon 986. (491 304)
-Itapu: F.R. Moreno 943 (445 121).

->Incidentally, I believe author John Gimlet stayed in this last one. In his book he notes:

When I told people that I wanted to be nearer to the old heart of the city, “you´ll be robbed” they said. I took a room in an ugly house on Fulcrencio R. Moreno called Residential Itapúa. It had been build by an aviator caller Ríos….On his death in 1998 Dr. Rios had left the house to his daughter and her husband…Dr. Rios’s house had made an easy transition from cheesy home to cheesypension. Every nook was colonized with beds. There were tiny cells for salesmen and dormitories for the Peace Corps kids.

Pension Schraman: communal living - guest house

Several of my german friends lived here. It is a large house that can accomodate around 15 people. It's a lovely big house, each room has private bathroom. Includes living room with cable TV, AC, heaters for the winter, kitchen, dining room, laundry, BBQ area, gardens, small pool. Costs around 850,000 guaranies per month. Comes with breakfast every morning. Alcohol is permitted, but they don’t like you having guests in your room for security.

Internado Aleman: Communal Living - Residence

I stayed here for 11 months and loved it! It is a student residence run by a local church and can house up to 40 people. Most are shared rooms with a bathroom. There are 2 small houses on the property used mainly for visiting priests, as well as a larger house used mainly for German students. Here you will find many Paraguayan as well as international residents (Argentina, Brazil, Germany…). All meals are included; laundry facilities (machines are very old), soccer field, volleyball court, super nice people, good way to make lots of friends. Has cable TV in common area. No Air-conditioning, no heating. Rooms come with ceiling fans. Relatively safe area of the city. No overnight guests, no alcohol. YOu can rent by teh night, week, or month. Located next to la ANDE on España. (rent: between 650-750,000 guaraníes per month).

Plaza Hotel: Inexpensive and welcoming

Perfect value for money. The best service is the presence of "caja forte". Already scared by tourist guidebooks travelers can relax and enjoy the city. It has a "desayuno" included and the dinner fare is pretty much like the other restaurants in town. Advantage? You do not have to take your slippers off.

Most of all, the hotel is a very good deal for the location. One can walk around downtown area and forget about buses or taxis. View of the ex-train station and the leafy park is available from the dining room.

Information stand employee at the bus station advertises this hotel but to negotiate prices you will have to call. Conviniently, there are change offices and telephone booths nearby.

Granados Park: Rod Stewart would love it here!

Excellent hotel in the center of Asuncion. Service is second-to-none, the adjacent restaurant is one of the best in Asuncion, and the rooms are huge and nicely decorated. I couldn't think of a better business hotel option

See above. There is also a pool and a gym on the rooftop. Free massages after a stay of three nights.

If there is anything I don't like about this fantastically run hotel, it is the fact that they constantly play Rod Stewart everywhere, in the restaurant, in the bar, even if your on hold on the phone! I didn't mind so much the first time I was there two years ago, but was surprised to find out that the Rod Stewart obsession continues on to this day!
