Visit the Countryside (la Campiña)!!
by besbel
If you are in Arequipa, take some time to watch the countryside ("la campiña" in Spanish) from the Sachaca belvedere. You can also visit the little towns of Yura (with termal baths at the foot of the Chachani volcano) and Sabandía (with a windmill from the XVIII century), located in this area.
All tours include a visit to this towns or a trip to the countryside, but if not going with a tour, please take a taxi and ask the cab to take you there (the ride is cheap). Getting running so fast at the top of Sachaca belvedere, one of the highest points in Arequipa.... and inmediately having to admire the campiña ON MY KNEES because I suddenly got became height-ill! My head was spinning so badly that I had to wait about half an hour to get down! That's why the pics are a little moved, he he :)
Moral: don't go fast in such high places :)
Nina Yaku Restaurant and Bar
by kiwigal_1 about Nina Yaku
Nina Yaku specialise in gourmet Peruvian food. We came here on our last evening in Arequipa as we wanted to treat ourselves to some good food. I had a sauteed beef dish with potatoes, tomatoes and onions which is typical in Peru.
La Catedral
by richiecdisc
The cathedral is one of many buildings made of sillar, a light colored volcanic rock, which gives the city its name, "the white city." Though the original structure dates back to 1656, it was destroyed numerous times and the one you see today was built after the earthquake of 1868.
Yanahuara
by kiwigal_1
After walking all around the center of town we decided to venture a little further afield to the area called Yanahuara which is across the river (cross Puente Grau to get there) and to the right about 2 kms.
When you get there you will see a plaza with Yanahuara church on it and at the end of the plaza is the distinctive volcanic rock arches of the Yanahuara Lookout with stunning views back across to Arequipa with the Misti Volcano behind it.
Monasterio Santa Catalina

The visit to the Santa Catalina Monastery was a visual architectural feast for me. As a result I took so many photos I decided to add a travelogue of more photos on the Arequipa page.
For information on the Santa Catalina Monstery please go to my tip on the Things to Do section of my Arequipa page.
