Joining tour to Colca Canyon
by Amareyui
For those of you who has a week to spend in Arequipa, it is better to go to Colca Canyon on your own. But if you dont have such luxury, joining a two days, one night tour is a good idea.
I paid US$20 for my tour, which was arranged by Colonial House Inn, the place I stayed in Arequipa.
The altiplano
by christian99
You can rent a car to make a one-day drive on the nearby altiplano. To the East, 2 hours away from Arequipa, is the Laguna Salinas, trapped between Misti, Ubinas and Pichu Pichu volcanoes. It is a National Park where you can observe many bird species as well as thousands of lamas and alpacas in a wonderful landscape.
North of Arequipa, behind Chachani volcano, the highlands are inhabited by a large population of wild vicuñas. From there, you can go back to Arequipa by the old road which passes between Misti and Chachani along the deep canyon of Rio Chili .

Arequipa, maybe the most beautifull colonial city in Peru, offers you a lot of buildings built up in the colonial style, from the Santa Catalina monsatery, to San Cristobal Church...
Just have a quiet and chill walk trough his streets! It will be simply beautifull and relaxing....
Monasterio de Santa Teresa.

This convent devoted to religious seclusion was built in 1710 and was opened to the public in recent years (2005). It´s a beautiful building with amazing works of religious art, and some great frescoes. Guided visits every half hour.
Creating a monster in Arequipa
by richiecdisc
Dubbed “the white city” due to the preponderance of buildings made of a lightly colored volcanic rock named sillar, Arequipa not only glistens in its sunny arid climate but also sit majestically amongst the spectacular volcanoes that act as its backdrop. With an array of stunning colonial buildings, a charming tropical main square, and great local food specialties, even the most casual visitor can keep busy for a few days. Add to this, a sprawling colorful convent complex, the archaeological wonder of Juanita, and a bustling local produce market and it is one of Peru’s most unforgettable cities. Finally, with its close proximity to natural wonders like the Colca Canyon and the Valley of Volcanoes, it quickly enters the realm of can’t miss cities in all of South America
