Stay by the river in Arequipa

    by

This hotel is in a peaceful location on the banks of the river. It means you're a little way out of town (about 1 kilometre) but in every other respect it's a lovely place to stay. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a superior room which was fantastic - very large, with separate sitting and sleeping areas, and a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi! Most rooms seemed to have views of the river and of the hotel's lawn, kept neatly clipped by the resident alpaca.

We ate in the hotel's restaurant - the food was lovely but it was expensive for Peru and a bit too quiet for our liking. There's also a small bar, and the tables outside make a great setting for the included continental breakfast or a lunchtime snack.

Unique Quality: Bamboo bird cages with canaries hang from trees outside every room and in the cafe area. Each bird has its own name marked on the cage, and they sing beautifully, but if you don't like the idea of caged birds you may be a bit uncomfortable with this.

    La Posada del Puente

    by

Located at one side of river Chili, this four-star hotel offers a great view of all around from its gardens/restaurant. All of the rooms are connected to the gardens, finely decorated with torchs at night, as well as telephone, cable, and a frigo full of most Arequipa's specialties (La Iberica sweets, Socosani mineral water and Arequipa's wine, among others, but not for free)
The service is good and the crew is very helpful. There is also a small business center where you can connect to internet.
To me, the best thing of the hotel is the restaurant, one of the most elegant in town, with candles in all tables at night and a pianoman on weekends.
Cons: the price (around US$50 in low season, and do not include breakfast).

Directions: Next to Yanahuara, under Grau Bridge
