Best in Arequipa

It is a 1940 colonial style pink structure, located inside the largest park Selva Alegre.

Approbably 1 mile walking distance to Plaza de Armas via Calle Jerusalen.

Unique Quality: Libertador has a pink exterior. Our window opens to a garden with a few ostriches walking around, so as sheep.

The bed head was traditional Peruvian style. The bathroom sink is high so a tall person like Norbert would be happy. I liked that the window can be opened to let the fresh air in. But when I enjoyed the fresh air, a few flies also invited themselves into our bedroom.

Tall people will enjoy the high counter sink top. Staff at the lobby was very helpful.

Sonesta Posada del Inca Lake Titicaca, Puno (tel. 051/364-111): Gracing the shores of Lake Titicaca, this hotel is warmly designed, with a roaring fireplace and lots of Peruvian art. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, and many have great views of the lake. Families might be especially interested in the tiny version of a Lake Titicaca floating community.

Hotel Libertador Arequipa, Arequipa (tel. 054/215-110): Housed in a nice 1940s-era colonial-style building a bit removed from the colonial center of Arequipa, this upscale hotel has a relaxed, almost homey feel. It has authentic colonial touches and plenty of space to stretch out, as well as a large outdoor pool and lush gardens. A good family hotel, it has a game area for children.

Hotel El Dorado Plaza, Iquitos (tel. 065/222-555): Although not overly fancy or oozing with character, the El Dorado Plaza is by far the best place to stay in Iquitos. It was the first-ever luxury hotel in town, and it boasts a perfect location on the Plaza de Armas and good service. Rooms are large, and the great pool is a fine place to relax after a jungle excursion. It's a very good value if you get a deal, too.

Hotel Posada del Puruay, Cajamarca (tel. 076/828-318, or 01/336-7869 for reservations): In the gorgeous highland countryside just outside Cajamarca, this country hotel is a restored 1830 farmhouse. The great grounds, with gardens, horses, and amenities such as a barbecue pit, are sure-fire selling points, but the inn also has huge rooms, friendly personal service, a very good restaurant, and an extensive video library.

A: "There are no direct flights Arequipa-Tacna. The only way to fly Arequipa-Tacna is with LAN Perú via Lima but at a price."
